It's good to see there are still people playing the game that help newbs out. I stayed away from DF for a long time because all the forum posts I had read made it sound like DF was nothing but newb gankers and griefers. While there are douchebags like that, they're nowhere near as common as I expected, and I even had some people who killed me give me advice and gear afterwards.

For some reason, when I'm gathering materials PK's gank me and take my resources somewhat frequently. There's usually never a word said, and I go about my business afterwards. When I'm hunting goblins or other easy monster camps, though, their behavior is very different. Maybe it's just because they know in that situation that it's a new player, but I've had horses given to me, iron ore, a full suit of scale mail, some random r20's and r30's, and gold. Sure, ganking happens, but from what I can tell, most players are willing and able to help newbs get off the ground.

Ya, I stayed away far too long due directly to what I was reading on these forums. I smartened up though, and I'm glad I did. I think too many "vocal" newbs that have been complaining about the community were either subbed for a very brief time or were basing their opinion on Race Alliance chat, which is not representative of the in game community at all.

Posts that provide facts such as actual in game bugs are useful.
Posts which say "OMG the grind!" or "this game sucks!" are not.
Posts about a companies stock price have nothing to do with the state of game
Unfortunately both MO and DFO have seemed to attract the largest gathering of trolls I have ever seen in a gaming community.
If a poster cannot talk about the good AND the bad they are either a fanboi or a troll. It takes a balanced view to say anything worthwhile. Unfortunately most posters have little of use to say.
Posts which say "OMG the grind!" or "this game sucks!" are not.
It is all matter of taste, trying to convince people that this kind of criticism is not constructive won't change the facts. People who don't mind hours wasted grinding skills, stats or resources will stay anyway, those who don't will quit. As we both know the second group is much bigger. THOSE ARE FACTS.

He will be instantly viable in PvP. Against other newer players that is. He will be viable in group pvp in one month. He may never really be viable against veterans 1 v 1. This is not necessarily a bad thing as this is not an arena game...and thank god for that.
The "thousands of others" that left, wanted arena pvp, so I say good riddance. They wanted everything given to them like every other game out there that is AVAILABLE to them. Darkfall is a cruel harsh world and rewards those that put in the effort. In Darkfall, if there is a will, there is a way. As a noob, you can kill a vet, with a bunch of your friends and you are smart about it.
If someone wants to be hardcore they can be vaible in a week or two. They will still need to learn thier controls and practice. This is what takes the most time.

Example of a CONSTRUCTIVE post:

I am new to darkfall myself.I did play it last april in 09,but the population then seemed more sadistic .I was getting killed almost everytime i left the protection of the towers. It got old fast. The final straw was when i spent a good part of an hour mining and then being killed to only have all that ore tooken away. What took me 45 minutes to mine took some douche bag vet 10 seconds to take away(Vet players from beta).
I hated the ones who hunted the noobie areas.I thought it was very cowardly, but there was nothing i could do.So i quit.
Now a year later i decided to give Darkfall another shot, and i can't stop playing it.I love the freedom, the immersive enviroment and i can't tell you how sick i am of classes in other games. Some player did help me a lot by giving me stuff to help me out as well.So far i love this game and i am not even that much into PVP

Indeed.
To say that you can't be viable in PvP from day 1 is 100% wrong - especially now that the newbie protection only lasts 1 hour instead of 24.
- Within my first *week* of playing, on a trial account, I have PvP'd against other players. Some I've initiated, some came to me. I've won some, I've lost some... Regardless, I've PvP'd.
- Newer players, less than a couple weeks into the game at times, have posted here to share stories of their adventures in large group PvP, or of other PvP encounters they had - sometimes even winning against players far better equipped than they were. Not surprisingly, though, the more vocal crowd always ignores those posts.
- People on these forums, like Kost, (and I'm sure there are others like him) has been sharing his stats on his new character that is just approaching their first month.. Through normal playing, no macroing, his stats will have him perfectly viable in PvP against vets... inside of 1 month. Not 3 months. Not 6 months. 1 month. Of course, the more vocal folks are ignoring his posts as well.

He will be instantly viable in PvP. Against other newer players that is.
And since you cannot say how old the other one is...it has very little meaning.
And talking about good riddance, better riddance would be of players who only want 'cruel and harsh world', the game would get more subs then.
That's part of the beauty of it... you *don't* know how well developed - or how skilled - the other player is. And likewise, they don't know the same about you. Makes you think twice about attacking them, unless you're *that* certain you can take them.
If you don't want a "cruel and harsh world" then why would you play a MMO that has FFA PvP with full loot in the first place? Aventurine themselves have long promoted DF as providing just that kind of experience. They reduced the newbie protection to 1 hour from 24 because they felt it was making new players too complacent and, thus, unprepared for the game once the buff wears off.
Really funny seeing people posting in forums for a MMO that is *well* known for featuring a very rough and unforgiving game world... and then complaining about it.
It's like going into a restaurant well known as catering specifically to vegetarians and then complaining that they don't serve more beef and they'd get more customers if they did. Well, yeah... of course they would. But then they'd veering away from the focus of the restaurant... which is... a good dining experience specifically for vegetarians.

This one is damn silly reasoning.
Your analogy is wrong, I am not complaining about the game being harsh or anything, I am just saying it has low pop and it will not increase if the game will follow same development as it is now.
So to fix your analogy, it would be like opening a huge vegetarian restaurant with 800 seats and then wondering why it is so empty.
There is a reason why majority of the restaurants serve local, international or popular cuisine.
One hour heavens that hardly gives you chance to get adjusted. Well I am not the market for this game I go crying to mummy if anyone ganked me and took my stuff but one hour seems very harsh. I suppose it makes people tougher knowing they have even less time so perhaps it makes sense. I cannot play a game like this I get very upset. I recall the first time I got killed in PvP I was so devastated .I then learnt to play better practising and tried again and got demolished . But if they took my stuff too I would have never tried again. I got better with time but I needed the buffer to make me try but if you take away confidence right from the word go it makes it harder for a person to bounce back but well that is part of the thrill of this game.

Well said. I lost all my stuff for fighting (along side 3 other noobs) with a single vet. The vet did not take my stuff, he just farmed us noobs till we left. I simply had no means to loot my grave. Made me leave for not being able to play the game. Before someone says "You should of asked for help or left" - I asked for help - none came. I didn't know where to leave. So as a noob, I was stuck and helpless. I hate being helpless.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Also, newb protection was redued to 1 hr becasue newbie dungeons were added in the captial cities.
That is how you fail in game design
No it removes protection from famrers using rial accounts and protects new players from othr factions. there is no reason for vets to hunt these dungeons as goblins aren't profitable much at all.
Maybe you fail at game design because you don't seem to comprehend the mechanics.

Facts? Popular media such as games and movies are not good or not because of facts, it is not a science project. Rather it is based on if people enjoy the media or not with in turn is based on feelings and not facts.
So good luck trying to make people watch a movie because of facts. People will walk away before you even have listed all your facts, they are out to have fun and you cant use facts to convince people that they will have fun.
