How many fans you got and how much ventilation is in the place the computer is.
I always suggest putting the computer near a window and wall.
You should put a case fan (if you not got one) to blow air OUT of the computer.A common mistake is to keep the fan blowing in and you are just circulating hot air.
If all fails then put on a artic cooler(check web for sites for sale i only know UK sites) on the Gcard.
WARNING- changing a Gcard fan is at your own risk.Instructions are simple but have been know to fail if not done right. Also warranty is lost if you change the fan in most cases.
I have the fan on the window... I also have a Tornado 92mm CPU fan a SLK-900A for a heatsink and finally Arctic Silver 5. With these three items [which cost me around $60 total] my PC had dropped 15ºC! Yes! It's that much of a difference with me... so that's why I can easily hit these higher speeds with my CPU and videocard with no heat issues.
I've also downloaded the 5950U BIOS for my eVGA GeForce FX 5900. This turned my 5900 into a 5950U but the 5950U has 250MB RAM and faster core/memory speeds.
I also took that extra "headroom" I had and I clocked my videocard to some decents speeds... [check sig]
Anywho... just ask me... I can help.
I use a program called SpeedFan to check my temps. in Windows.
well im gettting a summer job, and im gonna use most of the money to build a comp. im gonna buy a p4 3.4 ghz. what mother board should i put it in, wats the best ram for it. and wats the best video card i can get for it. and wat king of cooling system, and power supply sould i get. Thanks for the help.

woops...
i see that bottom back fan is blowing out...but the top one is blowing in...
must be because i changed the top back fan and faced it in...uhhh, i better fix taht soon

The prices listed are the lowest I could find. If you decide to go with these and find a cheaper price, please let me know because I'm using the Zalman fan for my processor when I build a new system this fall. That is unless I find something I like better. Hope I helped you out.

AMD ATHLON 64 3400+ 2 gb ram 120 gb hd and i got the case allready
now come the questions. 1)how far can i overclock it 2)Whats the best kind of ram for it. 3)What motherboard should i use 4)What cooling system? 5)What power supply? 6)Whats best video card to put in it? 7)Anything else you can think of. Im just learning about building computers so please help.

Because i'm aiming for something that will run EQ2 with a reasonable 20 fps if possible.
Alrighty i've been browsing some sites and i was able to fully pimp out a PC without going over the 2000 dollar barrier(keep in mind that's canadian too).
2GB PC3200 Dual Channel Memory(yeah, it's alot. But going from 1GB to 2GB was mad cheap, mathematically i had to do it )
120GB Ultra ATA (7200rpm) IDE Hard Drive
80GB Ultra ATA (7200rpm) Hard Drive (Hard drive 2)
8X DVD-/+ R/RW Drive Black
15" Black LCD Monitor
Apparently they did not have GeForce 6800 Ultra to choose from at the moment (isn't it out yet?). Anyways, that looks like what i'll be getting if i add in a 6800 Ultra.

cool cool, just why why IDE drives? why not sata That was the first type of frive i checked for, i don't think i saw SATA as a choice. And you want the PCI-E edition of the 6800? I haven't checked the Price on the PCI-E edition but it would be stupid if i didn't buy it .and lastly this is a pure gaming machine? Cause that is a lot of space for one + the LCD why? that is expensive and shit for gaming. The LCD is a space issue. If i get a bigger desk in my room i'm changing to CRT. and as for alot of space.... This is my main comp so all my programs, movies (that are 1GB in space each) and stuff will be on it. Heh, i've already used 40 Gigs on this comp and it looks empty.....

I went to AMD's site and read the Athalon 2500+ tech manual, and it has an operating temperature range of 0 degrees C to 85 degrees C. Maximum operating efficiency for your processor is slated around 50 degrees C to 65 degrees C.
Your Radeon 9800XT card's operates most efficiently at between 52 degrees C and 65 degrees C according to ATI and some other article I've read.
I would say your within the operating parameters of your board, processor, and vid card. I would also say that you are maintaining a temperature that allows your system to operate at maximum efficiency.
Are you having problems running at these temperatures?

Need some help. I just got into the WoW beta and I'm looking to buy a computer to play mainly that game. I've only got 700 bucks max to spend but I already have a 19" flat panel display and Radeon 9600 XT video card which I got as gifts. I have a real good ethernet connection but I don't really know much about computers so I was wondering what are the best specs I could get for that price and what brand to buy. Should I get a Intel P4 and what speed? Ram? etc. Like I said, I don't really know too much and I only got 700 bucks so the more detailed your opinions are the better . Thanks.

I would recommend the Zalman CNPS7000A-CU HSF cooling fan. It cools at 2400rpm, 12V @ 25dba, H-21mm x W-23mm x D-200mm. It sells for $38.00 US at http://www.tcwo.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=3133
For the case, Vantech SF8025L Double Ball Bearing Case Fan. It cools at 2050rpm, 12v @21dba, H-80mm x W-80mm x D-25mm. It sells for $8.03 US at http://grabber.compuvest.com/Description.jsp?ItemID=18597
The Zalman fan has been out about 6 months now, and if you want to read a review about it: http://www.cooltechzone.com/reviews/cooling/cnsps_1.php

ok Well i'm assuming you don't want to buy parts and build it yourself.
Here is my suggestion...
www.ibuypower.com
you can get a system with a crappy video card (if u want to use the one u got) and just replace it. No need to get a monitor either.
I would reccomend either an amd with 2500 cache, or a p4...whichever fits your budget
if you have only 700 bucks to spend, you're looking at 512 pc 3200 ram...
you'll get a 80gb hard dd and everything etc.
ask if more questions arise
