I can afford $60 for a game that I know I'm going to buy so it was an easy choice.
It feels good knowing that I'll get to play this coming weekend.
It feels even better knowing that trolls and haters won't pony up $60 and won't be in the game trying to ruin it for anyone else.
I wish every game went this route. No more free betas filled with trolls and children who have no intention of ever buying any game. Either put up or shut up.
So you're basically saying that if I would like to try and get a feel of the game before buying it, I'm a troll. Nice logic there.
your game library must be very small if you only buy games that you can play. Lets see Spore.. no that was just creature creator.. Darkspore that had a demo.. lets see ME3.. demo was terrible and made more ppl not want to play it than to play it. The rest would be games that had open betas.. SUBSCRIPTION GAMES. The reason they have them is to allow people to see if its worth the sub NOT the game itself. Games are bought from pure advertisement and trial footage. People keep forgetting that GW2 is a BUY 2 PLAY model.. not a sub model. You have to compare it to single player games and then decide if the game is worth the 60 bucks just like any other buy 2 play game.
Or wait.. are you trying games via illegal means?
@OldMan Funk, good post. I hate the trolls in betas.. ppl forget betas are about TESTING not getting free access to the game, even open beta which is usually a stress test.

No. I don't know who you are and don't remember reading any of your posts. I have no idea what your intention is.
I know that Tera suffered from a large amount of trolls and abusive people during their open beta event.
Console games are sold without free previews. Why not MMOs? When's the last time you heard someone say, "Man, that new Mario looks great but if they don't let me try it for free then they're a bunch of evil jerks just out to get my money and I'll never buy anything from them!"
MMOs rely on player interaction. Players who are not fans of a game and only want to try a game to see if they like the game tend to be disruptive and abusive during their free trials. People who fully inted to purchase the game tend to be more supportive. There's no right or wrong way to perceive a game, but I don't think it benefits MMO developers to let the people who don't really want to be there in only to disrupt and disparage the game that paying customers are trying to enjoy.
People should be able to tell from features and reviews whether or not a game is worth trying. There's no reason to open games up to trolls and haters in hope that some of them might stick around. All they do is sew seeds of discontent.
I wasn't necesarily refering to me, it meant someone that would like to see how the game is before buying it. I am actually interested in the game, but it's nice to get a chance to experience it before buying it. There were many ocasions where I was a video of a game and thought it was good and when I actually got to try it, it wasn't, so I can't really go on only by those. Reviews are most if not all "Best game ever to be produced" type of stuff so I don't put much faith in them.
Reason I am interested in the game is the actual mechanics/features and filosophy behind it, but it would be nice to also feel them in action, or at least have a real chance of doing it, which, let's be honest, are like 0.1% probably for someone who didn't prepurchase, since people who did get the first chance at it. I belive that's what upsets the people that don't like the BWE being tied to a prepurchase...it basically reduces their chance of getting in the event to 0.
Also, you know you have a good game when people that tend to be disruptive and abusive, stop from being that way because of how much they enjoy it.
As for me, I'll be able to see and try it at a friends and hopefully decide if I want to buy it.

Yay, trying to ridicule me, thanks. Chill. Why I would like to try it is to feel the responsivness of it, how the movement feels while actually playing it. I mostly play point and click adventure games, which don't need a demo or games from companies that I know delivered quality games in the past without trying a demo. For games from new companies or ones I haven't dealt with, yes I usually want to play a demo, unless someone I know has similar tastes to mine recomends it to me. Or you know, a steam sale, where I pay so little for it, it doesn't matter.
Don't really get why you think trying a game before buying it is such a bad thing that you have to oppose it so hard. If it's as good as you say/think it is, you should be happy if people were able to try it out, since it would mean more people to play with and more support for the company.

Anet has a great track record as a company. GW1 did great and ask any GW1 player how great the company is to deal with but don't think you are entitled to play their game just because you don't know them and can't do the research. Have you never bought an indie game? Generally you don;t get to try those out. I just bought Legend of Grimrock.. happy I did. Bought it before it came out and was happy as a clam.

My game library is tiny at this point aside from old game. I could name every game I've bought since 2005 and it would take up much space at all.
Oblivion, Two worlds, Battlefield BC2, Total war: Medieval 2/empire, Mass Effect 1+2, DA:O, Mount and blade + warband, X3: and its's spin offs, AOC, TOR, Skyrim. That's about it. Aside from the ME's, DAO AOC, TOR and TWo worlds, I get plenty of gaming from those other titles even today.

Golly gee, can't imagine why people would forget that when companies start offering beta access to customers who pre order or purchase their games. I mean you would almost think it was being used as a marketing tool by companies rather then for testing purposes.
>_>
Good luck on thinking this means there won't be trolling in beta. Let me know how that works out for you. The only thing that is really going to cut down on this is no global chat.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Ok, I'm paranoid, but the way you wrote was condescending. Indie games usually cost like 5-15 euros, so they can be put in the steam sale category. The reason I said you seem to be againt people trying it, is that you always seem defensive about the issue. I'm not saying there should be a trial, but it would be nice if there was one, closer to release ofcourse.

You are right the last post WAS condescending.. for a reason. You claimed I was ridiculing you when I was merely explaining why your argument was faulty. I am not being defensive at all, but you are clearly uninformed or confused so I was trying to enlighten you. You also pretty much DID say there should be a trial because when you complain about something it usually means you want it to be different which is why I was explaining why there wasn't.

You are enlighting me on my faulty arguement of wanting/prefering to try something out before buying it? I am going to see and try out the game this week-end, wrote that in a previous post(hmm probably was a reply to someone else), but others won't have the opportunity and that's why a trial would be nice.
and then there are those of us boycotting them being greedy bastards and then having the gall to lie about it.
Boycotting a game company? Sorry can't get behind that, who knows their next game might be fun. Plenty of companies release good and bad games or simply have bad endings. Most hardly own up to it.

I am speaking of the DLC that was on the release disc and also just this game. Whether I get stuff from them later that remains to be seen.. but I will sure be VERY cautious about giving EA any money until they redeem themselves.

That's something I really don't understand all the hooplah about, plenty of companies are doing this today, hell BW did it with DA:O and we saw nothing like that about it. But whatever floats peoples boats haha.

actually this was the first to be caught at it and then when they were asked about it flat out denied it... That added with the fact that the NPC added with From Ashes was so pivitol to lore and background story that not having it made me and MANY others quite mad. I am also trying to recall any other CE that included extra content, other than just fluff stuff like pets or guns. You have to understand me.. I am a pretty harsh consumer I expect businesses to deliver what is expected and not to lie to me. EA lied and delivered a shoddy ending to an amazing series.

However much people hate EA on this forum, i'm sorry to inform you that a group of people hating a gaming company on a forum is not going to effect such a massive company. It's your right to be angry of course, but the anger in itself is just comical, look forward to GW2 and learn to let go.

That's really the problem for me when it comes to things like this, a trace of something on a disc, doesn't exactly mean the whole of the content is on the disc. I didn't purchase ME:3 as of yet, I usually always wait for prices to drop before buying RPG's especially in this day and age with DLC, as GOY editions are a far better deal. I've made two exceptions in the last year or so, Skyrim, and TOR, the latter I had extensive time in already and a different motive to play (guild).
Without being able to examine the disc myself, or knowing whether there was anything to DL for that DLC, I have no idea what to think. For all I know all npcs/areas could have been on disc, yet not the dialogue/cutscenes, etc.. or the opposite.
Anything is possible in this situation, gamers aren't exactly the type to need hard evidence or care to have it to jump up and scream.
Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from, in your stance as a consumer, I have no problem with that, nor anyone else who feels that way. I just don't take buying a game so seriously myself, same with movies, music or other media, I expect to love or hate it and accept the risk of either happening, I don't put much more thought into it than that.

There were enough people to vote EA worst company in america.
I won't buy any EA game, they have proven over and over to be a despicable company. It has nothing to do with anger though.

That's a fair opinion, it doesn't matter they were voted the worst company in America in one magazine (i believe it was). They will still make profits and continue on as they always have. Personally i believe Bank of America is the worst company in America, reserve hatred for those companies out there that are really screwing you over. :P

I certainly will if one interests me.
(yellow)That's basically what I was getting at in my last post though, gamers are a loud bunch today, with companies truly hurting real people, in real ways, the fact that there are more gamers ill-content with a hobby, it just strikes an ugly chord, and shadows real problems. Not to mention what it says about western society, but that's a thought for a different topic, most of this convo has been.

Even if they weren't voted worst, just being on that list at all should be enough to question if you should support such a company. The DLC thing was just the latest itteration to bring this issue up again.
And for the record EA really isn't doing so well. They just have great spindoctors.
Anet on the other I feel deserved my money. Even if I don't agree with all decisions they are atleast honest about them.

your game library must be very small if you only buy games that you can play.
If it's as good as you say/think it is, you should be happy if people were able to try it out, since it would mean more people to play with and more support for the company.
hun you are a bit paranoid.. I didn't ridicule you. i was trying to make you see reason. I also didn't say trying a game before you buy it was a bad thing but it is a rare and unreasonable thing. I mean come on do you not buy anything until you have tried it first? Some things its common.. cars, clothes, shoes.. Others aren't, food, shampoo, most software, comp hardware ect.

MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
yes indeed lol
About the last few minutes of the game, most if you actually read about this stuff feel the game was excellent until that point.

and then there are those of us boycotting them being greedy bastards and then having the gall to lie about it.
Boycotting a game company? Sorry can't get behind that, who knows their next game might be fun. Plenty of companies release good and bad games or simply have bad endings. Most hardly own up to it.

Again Prepurchased is meant for their fans.
If you are not willing to prepurchased that means you are not their fans.
Anet have a huge fanbase. They have 48 Server in this BWE alone from Prepurchased.
I got a lot of email from game sites to prepurchased, preorder and I just delete it, no big deals.
People are just getting annoyed because GW2 fans Prepurchased and are hype up for this BWE.
Anet would want every players to try their games so that they can get more box sales.
More box sales would push them into becoming better than WOW in playerbase, that is their objectives.
Hopefully, they will have an open Beta or trial once they are near the launch date.
Damn my english is bad lol, Can someone quote me and summarize my sentence so that I can learn how to write.
Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language
Wait, what?
