Today, the Community Manager of the Greed Monger forums told backers the project is currently stagnant, and that owner Jason Appleton has failed to fulfill the project's Kickstarter obligations.
The post claims that developers of the game have been banned, but are fighting to keep the project afloat.

I don't understand why the other thread was locked. This thread here is pretty much the same thing but without all the input.
Anyway the last post had this link which pretty much sums up what kind of person Jason Appleton is:

Its because I was being a dick... All good.
Thanks mmorpg.com for this article.
Big surprise another KS/EA MMO that has failed...to deliver...just take the money an run mentality...I would estimate at least 40% of the games that are funded through KS, Indiegogoa and steam EA...just take the money and stop developing...gives a bad name for the companies that actually work hard with the money they receive.
These funds need to be treated as loans imo....sure well help you get going but if you decide to quit you owe us plus interest!...just like they would if they screwed over a bank.
What a shame (no it isn't).
This thing had scamware written all over it from go.
With Jasons scammer background, I was surprised that so many people fell for this one. Appleton has done nothing with his life but failure after failure. He gets people to invest in his ideas and then makes off with the money. Check out his facebook page and see all the projects he starts but does not finish, with other peoples money.
You people who backed this project really need to go back to kickstarter and complain. Jason is bound by kickstarter contract to produce a product and fulfill his promises he made on kickstarter. It will only happen if you guys complain. Even if you only donated $10, please go back to kickstarter and complain. The only way these kinds of things are going to stop happening is if kickstarter enforces its rules and we need you to complain enough so they do that.

There is a huge difference between supporting a veteran developer who has shipped games in the past and giving money to an MMA / Swinger Reality TV person...
I can't wait until his "episode" airs...

Exactly.
What surprises me though, after reading through this Skype transcript between James and Jason is that it was less of a scam than I thought. It's pretty obvious that they were trying to work on it... in the same scary way someone might watch a movie about brain surgery and decide that he can take out his dog's brain tumor himself.

How do you sell a barely complete game and $100,000 debt to kickstarter? Who would buy such a thing?
The amazing part is that some of you focus on the actual NAME of the project itself... GREED Monger... yes, I can see where you might read into that a little too deeply.
But how about FINAL Fantasy? Was that the last of its genre? Did many of us buy those games? Or should we not focus on the name itself and actually look at the hard facts? The man took money, contract-binded to pay for the development of what the KS campaign stated was to be used for, and didn't give any indication of what it was ACTUALLY used for... it's like a bad child support case! Open your eyes people! If any of you played/bought any Final Fantasy that may supercede or surpass the original... and you believe that the name implies that you are, in some form, and idiot... you are, in fact, a hypocrite... and just as guilty as anyone DONATING money to a company that could possibly have the audacity to POSSIBLY contribute to the gaming community outside the BIG companies.
Its kind of funny actually... Trolls will run their mouths instead of rallying behind a good cause that will push in the DIRECTION of protecting the little companies that will, in eventuality, turn into the large companies that have the capitol to distribute the games that we all love to play... get a fucking grip people and look at the big picture!
Debt? What debt?
Donations to a kickstarter campaign are not repayable in any real sense. If the funds are spent on the development of the game they are a bonus to the buyer not a debt.
KS terms state that if they fail to deliver on backer promises then they must refund the money. I've never actually started a KS campaign so not sure what you agree to when you start up so it could be held up in court if you know what you are talking about

According to what was recently posted, Jason gave, not sold, all assets involving Greed Monger, with stipulation that if Interdiction Studios fails to satisfy pledge requirements by some timeline (their final negotiation document was not posted), the assets and all work done to that date will revert back to Jason.
However, obviously we are not privy to their final dealings so if money changed hands, I stand corrected.
Are you saying Jason Appleton is a good cause? Is the big picture that gamers should throw money at anyone claiming to be an indie game developer and not be upset when it looks like most of their funds went to Jason personal account?
Coming from the people who worked on this game, Jason barely paid them anything. James was the biggest check on payroll with a whopping $2100 check one time. Unity Pro cost them less than $2000 for the two years and a few computers cost less than $10,000. If you track what was actually spent on this game, it looks like less than $25,000 of the $100,000 kickstarter money went into it.
I dont have high hopes for what you are going to see released at the end of this year. Interdiction Studios is a small group who doesnt look like they have produced a single game yet. They have a framework of a game called Limb trying to get greenlit on Steam and their help wanted ad's seem to suggest they work with the unreal engine as opposed to Unity. Not saying they are bad or anything, just saying I dont know if they have the talent to fix GM in 9 months and release a solid product. Especially if Jason is involved in any form of leadership of this project.
This.
However, I would say "give them a chance" if they try and fail they still took on someone elses fuck up and are going to honor the backers.
I dont have high hopes either for alot of reasons. Not going to get specific- But kudos for someone stepping in at least. So long as Appleton isnt profiting.
If jason is involved that changes the above^^^^
