The changes have indeed brought back some of the functionality and SWG is picking up subs, according the DEVs but you wont quote that. The makers of the game never said it was dying, in fact they said it was they biggest gainer as of late. you are a bitter dude, and I still dont understand why you care if others like SWG now. And as I said before which you overlooked as you do most facts I have said in my post, The fact I like SWG now does not mean I like it more than pre-CU or CU or even that the implementation of NGE wasnt a mistake. Just they have done alot of good to the state of the game since NGE was released. IMHO

dude you are not following me, I never said NGE was great. I said it has been improved. Yes I play pre-cu I know what a fubar NGE and its implementation were. But you are missing me point enitrely. All I said was the game is better now, they have done some damage control and brought back SOME ( the word you left out of my qoute earlier) of the functionality. It is indeed a better game than it was right after NGE. You said you play beta thru NGE right? I read that in one of your post earlier, that give way to my statement you havent played in 8 months ( stuff I made up as you put it). No one is agruing that it shouldnt have happened, I think we all agree on that. But it did.

The whole reason for this post is to say they have improved the game considerable, if you like the old way of combat that is. THE NGE WAS A MISTAKE! (IN A WHOLE!)? Complete as in it was a mistake to do -- Read above, you can do this... you really can. Sorry that mindless text of his is above you I guess. Tacola and iskareot I thank you for your kind words. Iskareot as to your words no offense taken In fact many of the ideas I mention are ones Ive heard or at least thought of reading other folks post. So in fact my post is a sort of offspring to them. Just wanted to say I think the idea of MMO in this setting has so much fun wired into it. As I tried to get across in my post I think staying true to the central story (timeline) would serve the game better. Regardless of the past, and I find it as craptastic as many of you do the potential is still and always has been there for an exceptional MMO.

Edited: I forget to answer to how long have I played question, I start 2 months before CU hit.
I too quit for 6 months after NGE hit, when I returned I looked at it as a new game, you cant compare it to the old sandbox version, else you wont be able to play for all the tears . But now expertise trees are coming out, counting the TC 4 class have them now (BH,Jedi,Smugglers and Officers). Next up is the Traders revamp and another class also gets its expertise. In the trader revamp, decay is returning in some form and traders will be able to re stats off looted clothes to apply to crafted one, I am hoping this will return some of the ecomony and BE tissues. The trade revamp was posted my a DEV on the SWG forums, but he did say this was a very early look.
Smuggling is on TC now too, I havent play it yet, but my Bro is a smuggle and he has ran some mission, deleiver this contraband to here and so forth. BH can hunt smugglers when doing mission is my understanding, and low diffcutlity mission have NPC BHers that hunt them.
Space is the same. It really didnt change when NGE hit. It is a good flight Sim, especially to be apart of a MMORPG.
There are now PVP areas on 4 planets, and reward stims for holding base periods of time, Like health stim A 3500 hp heal when to first take the base, after 3 hours you get a B stim 4000 hp heal, each are 5 uses. There are various other stims available also.
If you left before rustess became live PVP, there as a mob called Emperor's Hand, that spawns and has a lootabe Hilt for jedi. In Rustess there are also mission which give you factional commendations. You can use these comms to buy armor and weapons ( really stuff for range class, but jedi can use the rifles.).
Crafting still has experimentation but due to the current loot system, looted stuff has stat mods and crafted items dont. Altough on my BH I wear Recon Armor 8k energy crafted no stats, but I have decent jewlery. So alot of crafted items dont sell currently, but the trader revamp should help that. That is due in about 1.5 months. They have pulled people off the new expansion and collision system, so this should help get all the trees out faster.
My firends list has been growing, now the Player Base still isnt near where it was in the hayday, but I am seeing people that I havent seen since NGE come out. I am have fun between PVP, PVE, Space and I also have a Master Chef ( who was BE , so I have a few tissue left ).
The more people that give this game a chance or return the better it will be, IMHO.
I am tring to be honest and not candy coat it. You really do need to have the outlook that this is a new SW game, just happening to have you old toon in it, lol.
I played alot of other games, but when target lock, autofire and trees for some uniqueness come back I have been with SWG ever since.

I play BH and Jedi, and I am on Corbantis. Movement is ok now, still lag abit of lag in multi-PVP, even with 2g ram. They have spiced up some of the instances like HK and Droid Army, they can no longer be soloed, which really they shouldnt be. As for other PVE, my Jedi seems to be abit better because he can cloak (escape) the BH has no way to lose agro really. San'sii is soloable with a good strat. His adds will get you if you dont watch it. But really the PVE is abit harder, although I can solo most stuff 1on1 the either class. DWB is tougher than ealier in the NGE phase, but with a group of 4 combat types and crafter, I took my crafter down and was able to make a Jetpack.
I would say a group of 5 to get to HK consistently, and 4 for the Droid Army, longer fight then it use to be, 5 might be better really here also.
So really on the PVE issue, most stuff can still be soloed. They did lower the drop rate of alot of stuff ( Glowies, Cloaks, ...), most of the time I win 1 on 1 in PVE along as I can keep the adds away, you are not going to solo say San'sii if you try to fight him and adds at once like before. So, I usually mind trick him and kill off the adds, then it is a decent lenght fight to solo him, just as an example. My bh uses snares alot on non-range PVE ( Kiting ), like Krayt and the such, but Krayt still agro from a good distance away it seems, so again watch for adds, you are not going to solo two Krayt at once,lol.
And station pass is going to allow me to try Vangaurd, that looks kewl to me, but AoC rating is going to help keep the small kiddies ( leet speak ) away, so I have been looking at that also. Just with station pass I can play SWG and Vanguard. Hehe, I still have my old EQ account of 5 years also .
My problem has never reall been the game itself. The problem has always been about SOE telling bald face lies right through their teeth. I remember the controversy, an employee of SOE leaking info about NGE to the public and SOE denying it right on up untill the NGE was released. Then went on smiling pretending that everything was copacetic, denying to themselves that they just shoved a knife up to the hilt in the backs of their paying customers. Even if SOE released a classic server with pre-cu rules I'ld not re-up for it. No, for me i'll just wait for the emu to get released so that I can play the game I bought.

While do not get me wrong, they have a good one, they made Jedi fighting Vader look really nice for the NGE commercial, at the same time we all know those animations were um *COUGH* not from the NGE... but hey.. pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Now ask if they held thier playerbase? Ask if they have loyal customers and have done well by them? Ask them if they consider thier product a good one with promise and has a good track reccord? Ask them if they had good reviews and recieved some good awards for it?

Man we know the question to this question bro. And his idea of logic is repeating the same quote from Smed and saying NGE is not great how and you cant call it great, when actually no one is defending the NGE or calling it great or even disputing Smed said what he said. I like SWG as a game, I do not like what the NGE did to it or the NGE it self, what the game is now is hardly what was rolled out as the NGE. That is what I am talking about. This game has morphed into NGE with some of the traits of CU. To that extent I like where the game is at now, to called it NGE and group it with what is general defined as NGE as it was first released is just wrong. If you played you would know that.
If you want to extrapolate from that, that I like the NGE , you would need to put in the cavoit, I like what the NGE has morphed into.

He never said the current changes or the current turns the game has taken was a mistake, And I never argued that NGE was a good product. My point was and is the game is alot better than 12/05. The changes have indeed brought back some of the functionality and SWG is picking up subs, according the DEVs but you wont quote that. You are not arguing that NGE was a mistake, because there is no one to agrue with, not me for sure. The makers of the game never said it was dying, in fact they said it was they biggest gainer as of late. you are a bitter dude, and I still dont understand why you care if others like SWG now. And as I said before which you overlooked as you do most facts I have said in my post, The fact I like SWG now does not mean I like it more than pre-CU or CU or even that the implementation of NGE wasnt a mistake. In fact many of the ideas I mention are ones Ive heard or at least thought of reading other folks post. So in fact my post is a sort of offspring to them. Just wanted to say I think the idea of MMO in this setting has so much fun wired into it. As I tried to get across in my post I think staying true to the central story (timeline) would serve the game better. Regardless of the past, and I find it as craptastic as many of you do the potential is still and always has been there for an exceptional MMO.

Edited: I forget to answer to how long have I played question, I start 2 months before CU hit.
I too quit for 6 months after NGE hit, when I returned I looked at it as a new game, you cant compare it to the old sandbox version, else you wont be able to play for all the tears
. But now expertise trees are coming out, counting the TC 4 class have them now (BH,Jedi,Smugglers and Officers). Next up is the Traders revamp and another class also gets its expertise. In the trader revamp, decay is returning in some form and traders will be able to re stats off looted clothes to apply to crafted one, I am hoping this will return some of the ecomony and BE tissues. The trade revamp was posted my a DEV on the SWG forums, but he did say this was a very early look.
Smuggling is on TC now too, I havent play it yet, but my Bro is a smuggle and he has ran some mission, deleiver this contraband to here and so forth. BH can hunt smugglers when doing mission is my understanding, and low diffcutlity mission have NPC BHers that hunt them.
Space is the same. It really didnt change when NGE hit. It is a good flight Sim, especially to be apart of a MMORPG.
There are now PVP areas on 4 planets, and reward stims for holding base periods of time, Like health stim A 3500 hp heal when to first take the base, after 3 hours you get a B stim 4000 hp heal, each are 5 uses. There are various other stims available also.
If you left before rustess became live PVP, there as a mob called Emperor's Hand, that spawns and has a lootabe Hilt for jedi. In Rustess there are also mission which give you factional commendations. You can use these comms to buy armor and weapons ( really stuff for range class, but jedi can use the rifles.).
Crafting still has experimentation but due to the current loot system, looted stuff has stat mods and crafted items dont. Altough on my BH I wear Recon Armor 8k energy crafted no stats, but I have decent jewlery. So alot of crafted items dont sell currently, but the trader revamp should help that. That is due in about 1.5 months. They have pulled people off the new expansion and collision system, so this should help get all the trees out faster.
My firends list has been growing, now the Player Base still isnt near where it was in the hayday, but I am seeing people that I havent seen since NGE come out. I am have fun between PVP, PVE, Space and I also have a Master Chef ( who was BE , so I have a few tissue left
).
The more people that give this game a chance or return the better it will be, IMHO.
I am tring to be honest and not candy coat it. You really do need to have the outlook that this is a new SW game, just happening to have you old toon in it, lol.
I played alot of other games, but when target lock, autofire and trees for some uniqueness come back I have been with SWG ever since.

I would also be intrested to know if movement is still jerky (Benny Hill) and have they improved the pve so everything is not so easy to solo.

I play BH and Jedi, and I am on Corbantis. Movement is ok now, still lag abit of lag in multi-PVP, even with 2g ram. They have spiced up some of the instances like HK and Droid Army, they can no longer be soloed, which really they shouldnt be. As for other PVE, my Jedi seems to be abit better because he can cloak (escape) the BH has no way to lose agro really. San'sii is soloable with a good strat. His adds will get you if you dont watch it. But really the PVE is abit harder, although I can solo most stuff 1on1 the either class. DWB is tougher than ealier in the NGE phase, but with a group of 4 combat types and crafter, I took my crafter down and was able to make a Jetpack.
I would say a group of 5 to get to HK consistently, and 4 for the Droid Army, longer fight then it use to be, 5 might be better really here also.
So really on the PVE issue, most stuff can still be soloed. They did lower the drop rate of alot of stuff ( Glowies, Cloaks, ...), most of the time I win 1 on 1 in PVE along as I can keep the adds away, you are not going to solo say San'sii if you try to fight him and adds at once like before. So, I usually mind trick him and kill off the adds, then it is a decent lenght fight to solo him, just as an example. My bh uses snares alot on non-range PVE ( Kiting ), like Krayt and the such, but Krayt still agro from a good distance away it seems, so again watch for adds, you are not going to solo two Krayt at once,lol.
And station pass is going to allow me to try Vangaurd, that looks kewl to me, but AoC rating is going to help keep the small kiddies ( leet speak ) away, so I have been looking at that also. Just with station pass I can play SWG and Vanguard. Hehe, I still have my old EQ account of 5 years also

My problem has never reall been the game itself. The problem has always been about SOE telling bald face lies right through their teeth. I remember the controversy, an employee of SOE leaking info about NGE to the public and SOE denying it right on up untill the NGE was released. Then went on smiling pretending that everything was copacetic, denying to themselves that they just shoved a knife up to the hilt in the backs of their paying customers. Even if SOE released a classic server with pre-cu rules I'ld not re-up for it. No, for me i'll just wait for the emu to get released so that I can play the game I bought.

The fact you even have to defend that they had to change the game since 12/5 is bad enough, the worst part about this is YOUR TRYING TO ARGUE with someone who knew this would happen and predicted it in many many posts long before you were even around. Now then, if you think I trust one thing that one Dev would say anywhere then you sir are lost. I will however trust a email from the president of the company. I feel he is more of a respected person and would not risk alot of his persona based on that.
Saying they have done alot of good to the game since it launched means what??? That they have done damage control so much that you should be happy now? Come on, who are you trying to kid? Your attempts at some sort of word or sly game to show that the NGE is a great and working thing is silly.
Smedley NO WHERE AT ALL has posted anywhere that the game is gaining people as of late or by all means is a success. Not one producer has said it is gaining people or doing well.. In fact they have said the complete opposite. In fact I have NEVER seen any sort of comments made by the Dev team or Producers, President that the game is doing well and or gaining customers or is some sort of success... please by all means tell Smedley that because I don't think he even knows it.
Again saying they have done good since the NGE was released is kinda funny if you think about it... for a split second if you realize that no time should have been wasted in even making it.
From the bottom of somthing you can only go up... the funny thing is that 3.7 years into this , THAT should NOT be what is happening, but you fail to see this.

NO SHIT... Because there is NOBODY ELSE THAT WOULD PLAY IT, the older players that know what happend are not that stupid to come back in flocks to it, they have learned from thier mistakes and used common sense over PR spin and marketing.
While do not get me wrong, they have a good one, they made Jedi fighting Vader look really nice for the NGE commercial, at the same time we all know those animations were um *COUGH* not from the NGE... but hey.. pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Now ask if they held thier playerbase? Ask if they have loyal customers and have done well by them? Ask them if they consider thier product a good one with promise and has a good track reccord? Ask them if they had good reviews and recieved some good awards for it?

sniff sniff corbantis (or corBUGtis as we used to call it) was my server to.
I think of the good times and I want to come back but the game i played no longer exists, and i would feel like a tool for suporting a company that burned me like that. ( Im not saying you or anybody who plays the NGE is a tool, its just how i feel about it.)

Man we know the question to this question bro. And his idea of logic is repeating the same quote from Smed and saying NGE is not great how and you cant call it great, when actually no one is defending the NGE or calling it great or even disputing Smed said what he said. All that is being said is the game is better now then when NGE first came out. And he said he has only spot checked it since NGE came out and does really play anymore. So, of course he would know the state of the game, from reading forums and debates, much better than someone who has actualy returned and plays regularly.

And that is the main problem with the game now, the player base needs to grow. Which I fell will happen if the Devs continue to keep their promises as they have of late, communicate with the Subs.

I like SWG as a game, I do not like what the NGE did to it or the NGE it self, what the game is now is hardly what was rolled out as the NGE. That is what I am talking about. This game has morphed into NGE with some of the traits of CU. To that extent I like where the game is at now, to called it NGE and group it with what is general defined as NGE as it was first released is just wrong. If you played you would know that.
If you want to extrapolate from that, that I like the NGE , you would need to put in the cavoit, I like what the NGE has morphed into.
