I'm aware of this dead horse but I just need to clearify my post (like the 3rd or 4th post in this thread). By no stealth, I should have said invis you cannot see the target in anyway, shape, or form. I forgot about the Waywatchers, but stealth for video games and their "real" world is different. Hiding in a bush is stealthy, while being out in an open field and no one is able to see you is invis.

WAR could have stealth aspects to it, such as ambushes or sneaking to their flank. But no invis as we all know it. Sorry for the confusion of one person. Also the only class that could maybe do it, would be the DE Assassin, I don't think the Shadow Warriors of High Elves sneak around, they might. What ever... WAR will not have invis to any class.

I'm perfectly happy with that, and stated before if you want to stealth, rogue/assassin up, or invis play pretty much any other MMORPG out there.

Going back to the main idea of this post.

Warhamer is about epic battles between unmeasurable armies. You think theres gonna some little guy running around hiding on a desolated battlefield? No way! get your face smashed in. It's armies, the classes are based off of having a massive force. First line tanks, second line damage dealers, and the mages in back nuking the help out of them....it's gonna be a blast.

    too bad.

I'm not going to read every page of this thread, but I love your logic /sarcasm

They're making the game for kiddies?  Making it easier?  Hell, being a stealther is easier than a visible.  You can pick your own fights, jam a fight whenever you feel like it without anyone knowing, and if you see trouble coming your way you can just stealth and hope nobody gets close enough to detect you.

I don't like stealth classes.  In DAoC, they would just jam every fight every chance they got, unless you were a respectable player.  I quit before the new archer changes, but I heard the stealth zergs were pretty insane and people would just die instantly, so basically they turned archers into casters with stealth or something.

    Looking for something new.

Meh, its been that way since WoW and EQ2+ 2nd gen "lets make copies of eq and ac and just make it pretty and EZmode so anyone can play, lets tone down everything and turn it into raids so there is nothin else to do end game."

I dont think stealth fits the game.. if you can name a class that should stealth in this game let me know, i know choppa's arent going to stealth because thats not what a choppa does. A hammerer shouldnt stealth because its a guy with a big brutal hammer, healers and tanks shouldnt stealth... because they are healers and tanks...

I also don't understand the concept of no stealth being mindless... please explain, a mindless person is a zombie(not brain eaters for you "im gunna turn this comment around" folk) or to me sounds like an idea that was just taken from another without inputting an idea of your own, i mean cause there are so many games without stealthy rogue classes. kek

Mythic knows what they are doing, a hell of a lot more then most mmo companies im looking forward to some face shattering with my hammerer. If you dont like it you can just get out

    Playing: EVE
    and you better care

Dude come on stealth would DIE in this game. I mean just look at the chosen and the greenskin's. The chosen would just split the stealther in half! And the greenskines would just brutally smash them with either A: A warhammer or B: A huge ass axe. Ppl stealth really dosent fit into this envirment and Im personally glad that it dosent exist becuase stealthers are gay!

There are 9 classes that we have no idea about. We can assume that 2 will be tank classes, 2 will be caster classes, and 3 will be pure dps (Marauder has no info as of yet, but is obviously Chaos' big dps class), but anything beyond that is just speculation.

...And Dark Elves are known for being cunning, cruel, and stealthy; they're also one of the two races in Warhammer Fantasy that have assassin units (Skaven being the other).

I would like to see a stealth class implemented without invisibility. I usually play rogues/thieves/assassins, but I've always felt the idea of standing in front of an enemy that can't see me is nonsense. I think stealth should be implemented more realistically.

I envision sneaking from place to place taking cover and hiding in shadows emphasizing careful use of specialty equipment and poisons, etc. You know, something that requires patience and thought. It should be a difficult, high-risk class that not everyone is willing to play. Basically, everything the WoW rogue is not.

...And the main reason that rogues are so popular in WoW is because of stunlocking. At least when I quit, there was a ridiculous number of rogues, but only about 1 in 30 of them was an ambush/backstab rogue that didn't stunlock you and spam Sinister Strike. It was the simplest class with the most effective method for one-on-one combat, so ofcourse it was going to be popular.

    Achiever 60.00%
    Explorer 33.33%
    Killer 80.00%
    Socializer 26.67%

According to this survey, I'm an item-whoring ganker. I guess I should have stuck with WoW then...lmao.

If there is anything as stealth in this game it should be of technique and  of patience. Poisons should be used and intteligence is required so this class isent overplayed as hell.

But even then if they get cought they should be very helpless in the open becuase i mean look at there opponents... bug ass bulky ppl! So if anything if there was a stealth class then listen to this guy.

By the way I fell your pain. i was from WoW to and the rogue's there where so overplayed and gay and pretty illogical to.

No stealth in WAR will be a fresh breeze in this era of kiddie-invaded MMO's =/

Ah good vid thanks to freddy for posting this. I'm glad people can now see Paul Barnett himself saying Stealth wont be in the game at all. Dark Elves wont be getting invisibility and stealth is not needed for us to have fun pvp.

I also loved what he said that this game will be about fighting out in the open. Just like I've been posting all along

    Prepare for WAR

maybe because all those kiddies become the stealth users and over 70% of the entire population is a stealther? thank god they got rid of that type of class.
  • AmstelAmstel Member Posts: 61
I disagree. I think stealth completely and totally sucks.

Nothing is worse then having tons of invisible noobs just waiting for their chance to get a kill on you. There is nothing you can do about it no matter how skilled you are..... they are just invisible waiting for the perfect moment. How fun is that? Not fun at all.

The fact that you think a large % of the players like stealth is funny. Where do you get that information from?

if that is towards me. every game that has a stealth class, most of the pvp population IS that class. just look at daoc back in the day. it is "cool" and more "fun" to kill people whenever you want. you also can choose your battles, which means more wins, less losses. it is common sense.

i think more of the population hates stealth than loves it. but while the people that hate it are divided among all different classes. all of the stealth lovers, which is a lot btw are that one class. so that 1 stealth class becomes WAY overpopulated.

I'm glad that they won't have stealth, it'll drive the kiddies away.

People tend to roll the most overpowered class in any MMO. It's called the FOTM (Flavor of the Month) phenomenon. see here- http://www.warcraftrealms.com/quickstats.php?PHPSESSID=285e1e02cea9b89a101e06738c3adbf2

Right now #1 class on pvp/pve server is Hunter (anti-stealth, tracking, pet class). Sorry to use WoW as an example but i can get census data quick for that game. I bet  back when they were less powerful pre-burning they were not this popular.

notice on the PvE server rogues are not as popular like tied with mages for 3rd/4th place. So looking at this trend we can conclude that ppl roll the most powerful class on PvP servers to have advantage at PvP. It's not really about being 'stealth' per se- its about being overpowered and #1. PvPers like to be on even footing with others or more powerful

All I know is all my friends are rolling hunters (I dont play WoW anymore so just studying the trends)

  • zeroburritozeroburrito Member Posts: 84
which the stealther class always qualifies as. the most overpowered/easy in pvp.
  • vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

not trying to beat a dead horse on that point but what I also find interesting is that Night Elf Hunter are most popular but any WoW player knows why- Night Elf Hunters  can stealth + long range + pet/traps + have anti-stealth capabilities lol. Thus, they are #1. The race data indicates Night Elf Hunter are chosen by a huge margin over all the other races where Hunters can be used. so what we are seeing here is extreme min/max.

only way to avoid this is to eliminate Stealth altogether so we will see more variety / diversity. I find it no suprise that both popular race/class combos on PvP servers have stealth capabilities

One of the selling points for me in WAR is the fact there isnt any stealth. I Have played stealthed classes before and its rediculously easy to kill anyone.  You can get the jump, do severe dps and no one could ever see you coming.  I dont think any game can really get a handle on stealth to be viable in a pvp based game. There isnt a partial stealth because once the person is visible at all they can be countered so deves keep going back to stealth=invisibility. Luckily instead of dealing with the balance nightmare that is stealth Devs of WAR made the best decision ever, its not included.. bring on the WAR bring on the Fun.
