I really dont know about you guys i feel like we are waisting are time here . Because youw ill find out here if we are fan boys or just know what we are talking about.

Sorry, but that tripe won't work for those of us who have/are testing a REAL MMORPG. Breaking an NDA does not get you sent to jail. Saying otherwise is just hyperbole or flat out lying because you're trying to get people to believe that after 8 years of nothing that Darkfall will actually be released soon. How many years have to pass before this nonsense stops?

I too feel like we are wasting time because Darkfall is Vaporware, plain and simple.

It's highly appropriate that we are having this conversation on April 1.

Your probably right about the PR issue in some form. What there reason is for not being more open minded is a bit of a puzzle to be honest. Hopefully we get some clarifications about the state of the game in near future. Seems were about to get a new video about Conquest in near future.=) Lets hope that one show us some more of the features and why not some NPC:s too.=)
Seems there is alot of WoW players wanna join Darkfall btw. Was a newly made poll about where the followers of today is coming from.

I actually find that poll a tad misleading.

See....its not really fair to use the WoW answer in the poll for anything.  You could ask ANYTHING and get that many hits from WoW playerbase.  Its just that large.  You could have a poll which asked which games players like beating up old ladies...and WoW would ALSO likely command the highest results.  Whats worse is that WoW players are mostly new to the genre...and have already been spoiled by the ease of that game.  While I'm very certain some of them are looking into Sandbox games, whether they actually stick to them once the game isn't holding their hand through everything has yet to be seen.

Worse yet....do you really want the barrens chat crowd filling up your game?  Honestly?  Because thats a sure fire way to watch the game implode.

Beyond that, I'm glad we have reached a point where we can discuss and be open minded about it.  The fact that you will admit when I've made a point while still remaining to your own side in the debate is kinda nice.  You more definitely do not embody the sort of DF fan I've been making war with.  Just remember...the vast majority of WoW's players are twice as fickle as regular MMO'ers are, and we are ALL pretty darn fickle.  They have also experienced a game that had a TON of customer support and constant updates.  They will not find DF remotely comparable to the care Blizzard shows its own product even if it DOES release...simply because Adventurine will not have the financial backing Blizzard did in order to pay for the employees it will need to stand up against it.

Also, many old EQ fans "tried" the other sandbox games too.  You'll notice that most did not stick with it, and chose to go back to gear grinds.  There is ALWAYS an exception to the rule...but business does not base its course of action around exceptions to the rule.  This fact will hold true for many years still:  Players that love them some classes and gear will continue to do so.  The ones of us that actually like sandbox games AND come from Classic MMO's did so because there were no sandboxes once UO went down the tubes and SOE killed SWG.

Either way, fans of a gaming style will very often stick TO that style.  Especially when a monthly fee is involved.  When talking about a company fearing ANYTHING...its always important to be mindful that corps only ever fear same-type competition.  DF and AoC are clearly not even close to being the same type of game at all.  They also, very clearly, appeal to different gamers...a point made clear by both teams.  The success of one will not affect the other.  AoC or DF (assuming its real) would only live or die by their own merits...not the comparing of each others merits.  Sandbox players really won't give a hoot about AoC, a fact I am a clear example of.  I'm not interested in AoC, as it does not offer what I currently seek.  Should I want to play a Classic MMO, I would rather play WoW...as it already has far more support and time put into it.   I've no desire to spend money on the "chance" another classic MMO will strike me.

Agree. There would be many WoW players in any poll cause they just is that many. And as you say, they will probably be very spoiled by Blizzard. So they will need to adapt both ingame and probably also concerning service and patching. UO, Shadowbane and EvE would too me be the games where most players should arrive from. Old sandbox players. One group that wasnt on that list as a choice and i think will have interest in Darkfall is CS, since Darkfall is part FPS. They will probably also perform very well in Darkfall PvP.

Seems many roleplayers will enter Darkfall which isnt that surprising but 50% was more then i expected.

    http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=46181

View Poll Results: Will you be Rp'ing in Darkfall?
    Yes 177 50.72%
    No 119 34.10%
    Undecided. 53 15.19%
Voters: 349. You may not vote on this poll

And it will be interesting too see how many of the players used to games as WoW will actually adapt to a game like Darkfall and stick to it. As i see it, it all matters if they can adapt and find a place and whether they will enjoy the harder enviroment in Darkfall. Griefing i dont see as much as a problem cause i think it is already worse in WoW then it will ever be in Darkfall.

Might be as you say that AoC and Darkfall dont compete in the same Arena but its kinda hard to really understand what a very successful release of Darkfall will have for consequence on the MMORPG genre. There been a vacuum for many years concerning a good sandbox game in a fantasy enviroment. Will alot of the mainstream players seek out a harder challenge? And is it still a vacuum? I think it is, but only time will tell and first we gotta see some beta and release.=)

LOL, April Fools on me I suppose. A Darkfall fan criticizing a game for being pushed back and calling it vaporware couldn't be anything else but a joke.

AoC is actually in beta. Believe it or not, some games actually make it to that stage.

Funcom has actually released games. Can you say the same for the devs making Darkfall? Then again, that's kind of hard when you don't have a publisher.

Hmmm, Aventurine is publishing in one region. If its Europe or North-America is still to be seen. So in fact they have a publisher. Thought you knew that.

Originally, Aventurine was set up to develop and publish Darkfall so they've never been without a publisher really, despite what the trolls claim.

So tell me, what are the invisible walls like? Any good? I'm thinking of getting AoC myself, but only if it has good invisible wall content.

We're follow a game that is in development, I know it can be hard to understand for some why we wont be  playing Age of Conan until our death is upon us. But you'all have to face the facs, this is not the fate for all of us. Can you imagine that people can play and follow more than one game? It's might be hard to believe but thats true.

And why should they rush this game? It's no point unless we're like playing unfinished games.

You and  your mates must realized thats "your" game isn't the only one out there. And face the facs that many of us acctually gona play AoC to. It might not be the game we are looking for, but we're not taking sides and ignore the market.

You're need to put all negativsm aside sometime and try to be glad for all the people playing other games and enjoy it.

    Unbelievable...

This is the state of Darkfall fans. Is there something wrong with you? Or do you just enjoy acting like a moron? I realize that the Internet allows idiots to hide behind their real identity, but come on. Give me a break.

Can't you simply make a "valid" argument for your cherished game?

Thinking AOC will be an excellent title is NOT the point. The point is simply this. AOC is an "actual" game, like or not. It has been played by thousands of people, like it or not. It has been previewed by dozens of professional gaming magazines and Internet sites, like it or not. It is ACTUALLY releasing on May 20, 2008. People have pre-ordered this title, like it or not.

In simple words for obvious simple minds... AOC actually exists !!!

No one has ever actually played Darkfall nor seen it. Please don't give me the Asp story, it's neither credible or believable. In fact... There is NO proof whatsoever that an actual working alpha build of Darkfall has ever been made.

But you and the others can continue in your little dream worlds, till Hell freezes over if you like. We can rehash this post next year at this time.

I can't wait to hear the new excuses.

I agree with everything you said except one point.  Asp has flown to Greece and has played the game.  (so the story goes since he has pictures of office that looks like very temporary office space... i.e. nothing at all on the walls except a single Darkfall Online poster and a coat rack.)

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

  • downtoearthdowntoearth Member Posts: 3,558

he didnt take any screenshots actully

do i need to get the office screenshots from 2006?

Lol..now it's AoC making offers with preorders. "PPREORDER NOW GET A FREE EPIC SIEGE MOUNT! PREORDER NOW GAIN ART WORK PREORDER NOW TO GET EITHER A RHINO OR ELEPHANT!"...lol woow..

Tbh both should just focus on releasing there games and let the real battle commence then to see who wins.

I will stand corrected on that point then.

Hard to believe why this Asp character was special enough to have an exclusive peek. I mean, there's been many legitimate gaming mags that would love to get a look. And frankly, that was a while ago, if it happened at all. Where is the game today?

If it was my company, and I had this "wonderful", revolutionary game, I'd sure like to show it to some people that matter.

Well... That's just me I guess.

    Huh?

All companies offer free items with pre-orders. You would know that if you ever actually played an online game. That's called marketing.

In the 1950's, banks in this country used to offer toasters and other small appliances for opening up savings accounts.

    What's your point?

AOC is shipping May 20th, 2008. I think they ARE focusing on releasing.

Kindly respond with the release date for Darkfall.

  • downtoearthdowntoearth Member Posts: 3,558

asp said they want to release in 2008 and they said theyw ant to release in 2008 they just dont officly announce date suntil there 100% sure now

Obviously, the gaming public, E3, DragonCon, any other major gaming convention, non of us matter.  The only ones that matter are Asp (which I admit I'm sceptical of because he has history with the devs in UO back in the beginning) and the few they hire to work on the team.

Other than that, no one that we know of has actually played it.

    Huh?

Who the heck are you, and what could you possibly know?

    Let me get this straight...

We are all to believe you? Why? Cause you say so?

Name the people who have actually played a working build of this game. Point us to the facts you possess so we can all take a look. Would help the fanboys as well as the naysayers to have this great knowledge you exhibit.

    And... One more thing.

If you want to at least come off as a little credible, learn how to talk. Learn how to actually form a coherent sentence. It's hard to take someone seriously that speaks like a 9 year old.

same for oyu buddy who will believe any of the naysayer there all talk and no substance im pretty much tired of you guys *waves*

They have a right to jab at the darkfall crew.

    WE ALL DO.

Their gamers like the rest of us and are also  tired of all the talk and no substanance.

Hopefully a little peer pressure will move things along (doubtful)

    http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=19320&page=3
In this thread you can read about statements like this from Developer Athelan.
Athelan- developer of Age of Conan:

Pre-Order now for the low low price of only 6 payments of 99.99 and we will throw in this brand new kitchen sink for free, AND WAIT THATS NOT ALL get this complete box set of ABBA's greatest hits!... AND WE MUST BEEEE CRAAAAZZZZYY BECAUSE NOT ONLY ARE WE GOING TO GIVE YOU THAT BUT I AM GOING TO GIVE YOU THE COMBO JUICER SUPER SQUIEGEE HIGH POWER WASHING FULLY CARBIDE KITCHEN KUNG FU IRON CHEF KNIFE SET! BUY NOW!

Thats what that video makes me think of.

I mean if the game comes out with 1/10th of what is claimed there. If it only delivered on skill based, open pvp that was fun. I would check it out at least. But anytime I see claims like that I just can't take it serious. But thats a fan movie so hopefully they are not promising all that.
Another one from same developer and same thread-
Athelan- developer of Age of Conan:
Dont they have like infinite time and money now thanks to some rich sheik's son from the middle east?
And the last one i found in same thread-
Athelan- developer of Age of Conan:
Well there is a big difference between making some promises and not being able to deliver everything, and literally promising everything :P

It's like saying I promise to buy you a new car by the end of the year. At the end of the year I didn't buy you a brand new BMW I ended up buying a Honda.

But if I promised to buy you a Ferrari, and said no not just a Ferrari but a Ferrari Enzo, with custom solid gold rims, and full leather interior custom made out of lambskin. Then delivered you a used 1983 Mazda, or a toy car looking like a Ferrari ;p.
This kind of behaviour is really tasteless and is hitting below the belt. No wonder Tasos gave some pounches to Funcom after reading this.
And Tasos own responce to this turbulance can be read in thread link below on the Darkfall board and its way more mature then the represant from Funcom outburst on Darkfall developers and their game.
Tasos Flambouras- Darkfall Developer :

You'll never catch Darkfall developers taking cheap shots against other MMOs. Aside from adhering to professional courtesy standards, we're not that concerned about them to bother. You shouldn't be either.

I'll lock this thread now if that's alright

that is hilarious, and by the way if 2 regular people were talking to eachother and one said that, the other would agree or disagree and move on, but apparently the OP is trying to become a journalist because everybody knows the best drama is no drama at all blown way out of proportion and fueled by a retard with a pulitzer prize dream, nevermind the fact all of the points made were valid, nevermind the fact this guy works for a video game company making video games with much worse content than the quoted ones above, nevermind the fact a lot of video game companies encourage a relaxed gaming behavior in and around the workplace, nevermind the fact every one of his co-workers cubicles have toys and posters filled to the brim, but i guess it makes a great 22 page forum discussion to take no problem and convince the dull-witted that it is a serious issue with dangerous possibilities, does this make me a troll yet? i think it makes me the best troll ever thats what it makes me!  grrrrr im scurry

    onto the next topic!
