Honestly it's no freaking contest if you like the sci-fi setting and flying a spaceship you cannot beat a game that totally revolves around pvp like Eve Online. Games like WAR, AoC and Aion are half decent pvp games while I would have selected DAoC but since this vote is games in there current state I cannot.
Edit: I liked Darkfall also but I honestly dont know how anyone could select it over EvE unless they just hate the sci-fi genre.
I was going to vote Eve, but I havn't played it in years. I then noticed WW2 online, but Havnt played that in years either. In fact I havnt played Darkfall or reached the level required to play pvp in Aion.
I could be wrong but people go directly to this thread to see games are suggested for best pvp. Having to Vote in order to view the results will mess everything up. Results can not be accurate do to the fact everything listed has not been sampled by every voter. A poll should be constructed with an equation allowing the above circumstance to be considered.
No big deal if you take that into consideration and read the posts under thread when using the information to decide to try something new for pvp. Eve was a life long game (great game ahead of its time when it came out). Is it still or did they dumb it down to attract the masses? thanks
The tutorial is much easier to understand and they added new mechanics like faction warfare for that small fleet action in low sec.
They revamped the Scanning/probing feature to make it more active and more missions for those guys. I wouldnt consider that dumbing it down though. We all know the old tutorial sucked.
Eve is still risk heavy. Like an asshole I was transporting about 5 billion isk in goods and had to go Afk due to my son having an accident in my living room. In the two minutes I was away from my Pc I was suicided in empire lol. Thankfully I have ten times that amount of isk on my character but thats just an example of how messed up that game could be.
To other people in this thread for me a quality pvp game is not just about the combat but about the other features that surround the pvp mechanics. When you play a game that 100% fully supports pvp in several separate mechanics its tough to play a game like WoW or Aion. Darkfall is decent but other than just roaming and killing newb and sieges the game has nothing to it.
Many will vote for DF but really what are you voting for? The game in it self is very shallow, maybe in two years it will be at the level of a pure pvp game like Eve or guild wars or even DAoC. it has a very long way to go.
Like I've said earlier the only way Eve is difficult is if you pay no attention at all the the very very nice tutorial they give.
quite suprised at fallen earth and darkfall coming out tops . unfortunatly living in the uk they are also a lot more expensive than other mmos because of the exchange rate a bit like eve which is also a no go for me .
For me Eve is not exciting enough or complex enough combat-wise. It can be very disappointing and very anti-climactic at times. That is why I prefer GW as I previously mentioned. My personal description of it would be close to "team-based, real time, fast paced Magic the Gathering". Everyone is there to fight, everything happens on a level playing field and everyone has a chance to win.
Dude I still play GW and still have it on my harddrive but certain people just dont consider it a mmo.
While I disagree with them GW is among the best pvp games ever.
If i could turn back the clock and select games in certain time periods to vote on I would have a very hard time deciding with awesome pvp games like UO, AC (dt server), DAoC, GW, SB and Eve SWG was fucking awesome.
I hope as time moves on games like DF, FE, MO and later on ER bring pvp game back to the epic level they used to be in.
Since I had to choose current games and certain ones didnt make the list I will stand by Eve not because it has the best combat but because the entire game revolves around pvp in other forms as well.
WoW because the combat mechanics in that game are still second to none. They made arenas where everyone was on equal playing fields focusing on skill rather then more numbers > skill.
Lineage 2 because i loved the FFA, castle sieges territory wars etc. I dunno it just felt like a good pvp game in my mind. Plus they did a good job in this game to put hubs of really good mobs for xp/drops making it spots for clan wars battling over the spots.
I've never played Darkfall though, and I couldn't get into fallen earth (probably because call of duty modern warfare 2 came out)
Having played EvE for more than four years, been heavily involved in alliance wars and 0.0 pvp, I voted Darkfall.
People who tell you EvE is a comparable PvP game to DAoC are out of their minds. EvE is one thing totally different from the rest, it's maths vs maths more than player vs player. Player skill is far less of use in this game than a good calculator and a strong resilience to boring tasks.
In fact, it's what creates the high stakes of the game: PvP and geopolitics rely on a lot of hours doing boring things, which you don't want someone forcing you to do again.
Really, you like UO, Asheron's Call-Darktide or even Planetside PvP, go Darkfall. You like rts, wargames, chess and having a second work when you come back home, go EvE.
Don't get me wrong, EvE is great, but the lack of field tactics (very few positioning aspect, no line of sight, local chat serving as system radar, etc...) at the sole benefit of global long term strategy, coupled with a gameplay entirely menu based, is totally killing the interest of meaningful pvp engagement for anyone seeking the heat of the battle instead of the big picture numbers fight.
I can't understand how people think GW is an MMO. Even the Arena Net who made the damn game has stated that it isn't one.
ehh MMOG or CO-Rpg it doesnt matter.
The game has city hubs with full active markets, The game has pvp gvg. The game has dungeons that can be grouped for, the game has a massive game world that you can take anyone into. also global chat even when in the game world solo for socializing.
The only thing GW is missing is you fighting over spawns with people you dont know and honestly I prefer it that way.
The general consensus is WoW, mainly because of it's combat mechanics (twitch) and arena. Others include Darkfall and DAoC. Warhammer was ment to be the holy grail of pvp games, but after a few battles it just got boring.

Did you really need to create a alt account to post that and vote for Darkfall in a meaningless poll thread?
What does any of this matter? these forums arent real dude. in reality if we gathered every mmo gamer in one area and had them vote on the pvp WoW would win in a landslide.
To expand on my views I say Darkfall and EVE are the top PVP games.
On the other hand EVE is extremely boring, everything is about money and years of grinding really. Darkfall is exciting twitch based PVP that 90% of people that have played a FPS will enjoy, and can be a factor with a couple of weeks of serious play. Everything about the game is designed around player strife.
Dont get me wrong, if we are talking about the better sandbox its eve obviously, it had years of development compared to DF, but as a PVP game it is inconcievable to me that anyone would pick EVE over DF
Also I'm Voting with Eve for pvp. Those who tell you Darkfall requires more skill are fairly wrong. It takes just as much skill to be halfway decent at WoW arena's.
To expand on my views I say Darkfall and EVE are the top PVP games.

pvp is not all about combat. I would agree with you if we were only discussing combat.
EvEs meta game pushes its game passed anything on the market. Sure the combat is RTS ish. some people like that but what about everything else? its all pvp.
Hell Does Df even have cravan trading and regional banking/markets yet for a realistic pvp game world?

Empire Space....need I say more?
EDIT: and so you know Darkfall's Conquer the Seas Expansion brings the caravan system and the first steps to local banking with personal housing banks (non universal) and much much more....they are working on it
Does nobody else realize that WoW doesn't really have PVP? It's a mini-game.

A minigame (also spelled mini-game or mini game and sometimes called a subgame) is a short video game often contained within another video game. Check A minigame is always smaller or more simplistic than the game in which it is contained. Check Minigames are sometimes also offered separately for free to promote the main game. I wouldn't be surprised if Blizz released "WoW - TWINK BATTLES" or "WoW - The PVP Version" (<-starts out at 80) as a separate box set. Would you? Honestly. Would you?
Minigames occur variously as gameplay features, double check or as time fillers while levels are loading, or as Easter eggs. In the latter case, they are often called "secret games". In the former case, the successful completion of such minigames may or may not be required to finish the encompassing game.
The Final Fantasy series is notable for featuring minigames in every entry of the series, ever since the first Final Fantasy (1987), in which a sliding puzzle in the form of an Easter egg can be unlocked while boarding the ship. In Final Fantasy II (1988), a matching game can be unlocked while boarding the ice sled and meeting a certain requirement. Later in the series, Final Fantasy VII (1997) was the first video game to include within it at least thirty minigames, which remains the largest number of minigames for a role-playing game.

Just putting this out there because I want my early days of DAOC back. I know it wont really be matched but what is everyones opinion on the best pvp game out there now?

Dude Eve has more pvp options in empire alone than Darkfall. actually play Eve. empire is not pve only.
DF could gain a lot by adding in a Empire type area or continent to the game mainly a 200% increase in subs so you have more people to join against and with.

If you want good pvp, come to Darkfall. Player cities sieges, full loot pvp and open world. The way MMO's are meant to be.

Darkfall has all that (WarDecs, Baiting, consensual pvp (dueling), Suicides, mercs, market pvp, scams, politics, FW, Wormholes) in their own way like wormholes=nexus, scams backstabbing dueling (player made not game mechanic +1) etc etc etc
And probably it would help DF have an Empire space, I came from AC Darktide however, it really is not PVPish having an Empire Space, its carebear enviroment pretty much.
Would I personally mind ES - no not really, there is enough space in the world to have fights in

Dude Eve has more pvp options in empire alone than Darkfall. actually play Eve empire is not pve only.
DF could gain a lot by adding in a Empire type area of continent to the game maining a 200% increase in subs so you have more people to join against and with.
