I'm assuming these are the planned features since the game isn't out yet, lol!
To expand on my views I say Darkfall and EVE are the top PVP games.
On the other hand EVE is extremely boring, everything is about money and years of grinding really. Darkfall is exciting twitch based PVP that 90% of people that have played a FPS will enjoy, and can be a factor with a couple of weeks of serious play. Everything about the game is designed around player strife.
Dont get me wrong, if we are talking about the better sandbox its eve obviously, it had years of development compared to DF, but as a PVP game it is inconcievable to me that anyone would pick EVE over DF
pvp is not all about combat. I would agree with you if we were only discussing combat.
EvEs meta game pushes its game passed anything on the market. Sure the combat is RTS ish. some people like that but what about everything else? its all pvp.
Hell Does Df even have cravan trading and regional banking/markets yet for a realistic pvp game world?
Dude Eve has more pvp options in empire alone than Darkfall. actually play Eve empire is not pve only.
DF could gain a lot by adding in a Empire type area of continent to the game maining a 200% increase in subs so you have more people to join against and with.
Darkfall has all that (WarDecs, Baiting, consensual pvp (dueling), Suicides, mercs, market pvp, scams, politics, FW, Wormholes) in their own way like wormholes=nexus, scams backstabbing dueling (player made not game mechanic +1) etc etc etc
And probably it would help DF have an Empire space, I came from AC Darktide however, it really is not PVPish having an Empire Space, its carebear enviroment pretty much.
Would I personally mind ES - no not really, there is enough space in the world to have fights in

As a sandbox player I want a choice, FFA died with UO and was proven to not be a good way to go with shadowbane and now with DF having under 5k subs it further proves it. When MO goes down in flames and a new game like Earthrise that has safe areas triples all those games in subs combined the final nail in the FFA coffin will be hammered down.
You want to complain about Empire space? even though the pvp features exceed or atleast equal DFs feature set in its entire game? You are blind to reality my pvp friend.

Does WoW PVP have any effect on the world? Nope. Can I accidently stumble on a Batlteground and go "oh sh**! RUN!"? Nope. Is the stuff you get from WoW PVP have any value (game wise) outside of BGs? Nope..... sorta. They fixed this a little bit in 3.2 or 3.1 or w/e when they added XP for battlegrounds. Still can't use endgame PVP gear for endgame dungeons/raids.... when that is undoubtedly and undesputably the focus of WoW endgame.

I am a Hardcore PVPer, but I'm not going to play Darkfall because it's entirely PVP Focused. Just because I'm a hardcore PVPer, doesn't mean I want a game to focus solely on that. I enjoy other things too, I love sandboxes. The PVP has to make sense.
SPEAKING of MAKING SENSE. To anyone out there who plays/ed Darkfall, how do the developers make complete and utter FFA PVP make any sense at all? Despite the fact that complete utter FFA PVP has existed in no society in ALL of humanity? In every society capable of making a town, there has always been some form of law, or else the town wouldn't exist. Do they pawn this off on the players? That makes no f'ing sense. That's like going to a prison yard and picking up the sadistic serial killers to do your guard duties.
Hardcore PVPer, doesn't mean that I want Permadeath and it doesn't mean I want complete FFA PVP. Harsh death penalties to give a person to stay alive, yeah. LOTS of PVP area in a realistic medieval sort of way, yeah.
From what I've heard, Darkfall doesn't even really have harsh death penalties, since everything is so easy to get in the game. That's hearsay though.

You are partially right when it comes to open world pvp though. Zergs happen. Thing is a higher skilled players can kill zergs. Zergs are a strategy though and here is where the sandbox kicks in. The player made diplomacy. Why fight when you can negotiate? Your enemies have a zerg, well start making more friends. Break up their alliances.
Cities take a lot of work to build up. So if you get attacked and just "run away" well then you don't deserve the city. With the expansion possibly coming out tomorrow this game is a home run, at least in my books.

Darkfall at release was and for the most part still is a pvp focused game. But now things are filtering like the housing, better ship mechanics, different crafting options, etc. The game is every evolving at a good pace. The expansion is slated for tomorrow so I would pay close attention if I were you and see if the game is becoming closer to something that you would like.

Ruyn is quite right, outnumbering your adversaries is a valid, realistic way to win in an FFA environment. The real question is: does the game provides ways to compete ?
Politics, diplomacy are valid options to gather more people, and this is good because geopolitics is what FFA world is all about. The thing is: Darkfall, by putting player skill forward and allowing field tactics (terrain, disposition, etc... are very important), effectively allow you to win by outsmarting/outskilling an outnumbering enemy.
This makes the zerging option less frustrating when you have to fight against it.
Mortal Online is for small skirmishes 10 vs 10 max because of the design, and also the features make it more RP oriented than real PVP (compared to the routine 100 vs 100 going up to 2k pvp fights in DF)
In terms of PVP DF is and will be for the forseable future #1, it was made for it from the ground up

Ok so Darkfall has no active dodging only 1 hit box, no one uses Melee only magic in DF so its a Casting fest of magic, Plus its been CRAP from 8 months now REmember it released broken 8 months ago yeah.
Mortal isnt released yet, Still has 2 Major patchs Incoming 1 on monday. But the mindless circling and magic blasting combat system if you can call it that in DF IS NOTHING compaired to the Real time Active Dodge, And Blocking system of MO yes it needs a slight touch up atm due to beta. But after its completed It will put DF in the dirt then i will break the grave stone to that Cancer of the Sandbox World.
So you have no idea what your talking about compairing a finished and released game of 8 months to the combat system of a Game still in beta. (even tho the game still in beta is WAY more thought out then that crap hole DF)

I voted for Darkfall because it is the only Game where you have to aim yourself.
It is skillbased. I loved Eve too, but it takes more time and you dont have to aim so I got bored of the PvP.

I didnt see that Mortal Online is in the competition too, well that game is not even close to coming out.
The combat sux, and 100 vs 100 like its easy in Eve or Darkfall is absolutely impossible, it lags with 20 players already.
Mortal can not compete a bit with Eve or Darkfall.

I played WoW, HdrO, AoC, WAR, Eve and i play Darkfall.
It has the best PvP content.
Mortal online will only get Darkfall if they launch it in 1 1/2 years and this only if Aventurine stops publishing content for darkfall.
Both will not happen. Mortal Combat has no more Money to develop there game to the end (paid beta) and darkfall will grow more and more.

It's an old and dead mechanic. while im glad you enjoy DF and I do also we need to realize that giving a player a choice is much more important than catering to then .1% of players that want to sit around all day and gank new players until they uninstall.
As a sandbox player I want a choice, FFA died with UO and was proven to not be a good way to go with shadowbane and now with DF having under 5k subs it further proves it. When MO goes down in flames and a new game like Earthrise that has safe areas triples all those games in subs combined the final nail in the FFA coffin will be hammered down.
You want to complain about Empire space? even though the pvp feature exceed or atleast equal DFs feature set? You are blind to reality my pvp friend.

I am a Hardcore PVPer, but I'm not going to play Darkfall because it's entirely PVP Focused. Just because I'm a hardcore PVPer, doesn't mean I want a game to focus solely on that. I enjoy other things too, I love sandboxes. The PVP has to make sense.
SPEAKING of MAKING SENSE. To anyone out there who plays/ed Darkfall, how do the developers make complete and utter FFA PVP make any sense at all? Despite the fact that complete utter FFA PVP has existed in no society in ALL of humanity? In every society capable of making a town, there has always been some form of law, or else the town wouldn't exist. Do they pawn this off on the players? That makes no f'ing sense. That's like going to a prison yard and picking up the sadistic serial killers to do your guard duties.
Hardcore PVPer, doesn't mean that I want Permadeath and it doesn't mean I want complete FFA PVP. Harsh death penalties to give a person to stay alive, yeah. LOTS of PVP area in a realistic medieval sort of way, yeah.
From what I've heard, Darkfall doesn't even really have harsh death penalties, since everything is so easy to get in the game. That's hearsay though.

i wouldn't go as far as meaningless but i see where you're comming from. In my experience when things are focused on world pvp and FFA pvp, two things usually happen.
1) people are scared to pvp they run away from fights and/or only engage in fights they know they'll win because they have the bigger numbers.
2) becomes a numbers game, and numbers > skill
I'm not sure how it works in darkfall, so i can't really comment. But seriously you can't deny that it takes skill to become a gladiator in WoW. Even if you make the comment of an op team, those "op" teams still have to fight mirrors. I know the two reasons i listed are what made me quit Aion. If darkfall is different I might try it.

You are partially right when it comes to open world pvp though. Zergs happen. Thing is a higher skilled players can kill zergs. Zergs are a strategy though and here is where the sandbox kicks in. The player made diplomacy. Why fight when you can negotiate? Your enemies have a zerg, well start making more friends. Break up their alliances.
Cities take a lot of work to build up. So if you get attacked and just "run away" well then you don't deserve the city. With the expansion possibly coming out tomorrow this game is a home run, at least in my books.

Honestly my friend the time for FFA pvp is over. DF is proving to the world how much ffa pvp can destroy sub numbers in a game. Sandbox players want a choice. In eve at least they get to choose the level of risk.

Darkfall at release was and for the most part still is a pvp focused game. But now things are filtering like the housing, better ship mechanics, different crafting options, etc. The game is every evolving at a good pace. The expansion is slated for tomorrow so I would pay close attention if I were you and see if the game is becoming closer to something that you would like.

Ruyn is quite right, outnumbering your adversaries is a valid, realistic way to win in an FFA environment. The real question is: does the game provides ways to compete ?
Politics, diplomacy are valid options to gather more people, and this is good because geopolitics is what FFA world is all about. The thing is: Darkfall, by putting player skill forward and allowing field tactics (terrain, disposition, etc... are very important), effectively allow you to win by outsmarting/outskilling an outnumbering enemy.
This makes the zerging option less frustrating when you have to fight against it.
Mortal Online is for small skirmishes 10 vs 10 max because of the design, and also the features make it more RP oriented than real PVP (compared to the routine 100 vs 100 going up to 2k pvp fights in DF)
In terms of PVP DF is and will be for the forseable future #1, it was made for it from the ground up

Ok so Darkfall has no active dodging only 1 hit box, no one uses Melee only magic in DF so its a Casting fest of magic, Plus its been CRAP from 8 months now REmember it released broken 8 months ago yeah.
Mortal isnt released yet, Still has 2 Major patchs Incoming 1 on monday. But the mindless circling and magic blasting combat system if you can call it that in DF IS NOTHING compaired to the Real time Active Dodge, And Blocking system of MO yes it needs a slight touch up atm due to beta. But after its completed It will put DF in the dirt then i will break the grave stone to that Cancer of the Sandbox World.
So you have no idea what your talking about compairing a finished and released game of 8 months to the combat system of a Game still in beta. (even tho the game still in beta is WAY more thought out then that crap hole DF)
