    Fail more.

In WoW I have more then 50 different skills and abilites on hotbar and use them all constantly.

In DF i had only shooting a blue crap spell and hitting a sword with 1 boring animation. Fun fun

By this post I can tell you quit after less than two months of playing the game. In wow you wouldn't have had many abilities after playing for a short time. The abilities are there, you just need to earn them. I have 2 task bars full of spells and abilities I use on a fairly regular basis.

Poker is the best pvp game. Nothing comes close

  • 3nimac3nimac Member UncommonPosts: 63

Voted for WAR only to see the poll results. Honestly PvP in WAR is only good because everything else sucks and because its the only worthwhile thing you can do so everybody does PvP, unlike WoW and similar where PvP is nothing but a distraction to your leveling and/or gear progress.

Wish i could try out Darkfall but i would love a free trial before i buy a game that has had such bad press.

people hate wow beacuse its the biggest, not beacuse its the baddest.

    Wow pvp is pretty decent.

Darkfall has player made tournaments (sandbox player driven)

Darkfall has many binds required to play well

Darkfall requires a lot of knowledge and use of terrain a lot more than WoW

    LOL!!!!!

Darkfall is leading in the poll???

Just more proof that this forum is far from reality.

It's like a hardcore gamer bubble that ignores the reality of the mmo genre.

Out of this forum and DFs official forum noone knows what DF is lol.

Well, if Shadowbane hadn't been shut down I would've placed my vote there, hands down. Let's see how far the emulator project goes.

From time to time I log into WoW just to break some skulls here and there. I'm not a fan of themepark MMO's and their simplistic designs but I really like the combat system in WoW. It's just polished, responsive and well coded.

But if I want some true PvP, I go to my Muay Thai gym and have fun :)

Dude there are more people on this forum that are Pro DF than DF actually has subscribers.

DF is a virtual unknown game outside sites like mmorpg.com.

You and I both know if every mmo gamer voted DF, Eve and DAoC wouldnt even have 1% of the poll combined.

AOC has fantastic pvp, if your pc can handle it. It is way better than it was when it first came out.

Other than that, I would say Darkfall if you are into the sandbox thing, or WoW if you decide that listening to the crazies on this forum is a bad idea.

BTW, I'm not a crazy. Of course, that's what they all say...

Asheron's Call 1 Hands down, and I played alot of mmo's, AC1 mixed skill base and twitch base combat, U could dodge missile attacks magic or bow by twitch and counter everything thrown at you with skillbased attacks like Life magic for drain heals or mana, IMO on a scale of 1-10 AC1 get a 12 every other game as of yet doesn't even come close.

Find a MMO that mixes Twitch and skill base pvp and every class is balanced around 1v1 and you found a winner. After Daoc most if not all the MMOS that I played started to Balance pvp around group pvp. the reason is because 1v1 pvp favored the skilled player so to make the unskilled feel skilled they adopted the RvR/Team vs Team balance so that the unskilled don quit because of feeling like they are being Pked, Smart move from a business point of view as the real hard core 1v1 old school pvpers are a small % of the player base.

But for no bull shit PvP made for players with steel balls for 2009+ I hear EvE, Darkfall and soon to come Mortal online

    Anything EXCEPT Eve and Darkfall.

Enough of the EvE and DF fanbois please.

The majority of players (casual players) wouldn't touch either of these games with a ten foot pole.

    EVE is a "hardcore" game.

    DF is a "hardcore" game.

And by hardcore, I mean niche, not hardcore.

Technically, I'd call ANY game that isn't instant-action jump-right-in as hardcore, since it drains away your time like water in the desert. So I'd consider all MMO's hardcore. But these two are very, very niche.

A minigame (also spelled mini-game or mini game and sometimes called a subgame) is a short video game often contained within another video game. Check A minigame is always smaller or more simplistic than the game in which it is contained. Check Minigames are sometimes also offered separately for free to promote the main game. I wouldn't be surprised if Blizz released "WoW - TWINK BATTLES" or "WoW - The PVP Version" (<-starts out at 80) as a separate box set. Would you? Honestly. Would you?

Minigames occur variously as gameplay features, double check or as time fillers while levels are loading, or as Easter eggs. In the latter case, they are often called "secret games". In the former case, the successful completion of such minigames may or may not be required to finish the encompassing game.
The Final Fantasy series is notable for featuring minigames in every entry of the series, ever since the first Final Fantasy (1987), in which a sliding puzzle in the form of an Easter egg can be unlocked while boarding the ship. In Final Fantasy II (1988), a matching game can be unlocked while boarding the ice sled and meeting a certain requirement. Later in the series, Final Fantasy VII (1997) was the first video game to include within it at least thirty minigames, which remains the largest number of minigames for a role-playing game.

Is the stuff you get from WoW PVP have any value (game wise) outside of BGs? Nope..... sorta. They fixed this a little bit in 3.2 or 3.1 or w/e when they added XP for battlegrounds. Still can't use endgame PVP gear for endgame dungeons/raids.... when that is undoubtedly and undesputably the focus of WoW endgame.

Very true, IMO WoW's PvP is no different then there pve , Its learning comp counters just like boss fights then next patch they OP another comp to learn to counter (no real skill there sorry) Like raid bosses  you to learn to counter, WoW is a Group vs Group PvE game, or mini game as you like to call it. lol

Casual players are a niche as well ,Before the casual came to QQ, MMOS where for the hardcore, the people that wanted a World not a video game, But after seeing the money that MMOs can make they dumb them down the masses to make a buck, same goes for the FPS players as soon as they can can tac on a $15 a month fee and have peole pay you better beleave they will make Aimbot a default Option for the Casuals lol

The hardcore are like the American Indians, a Dying breed, Along time ago those players had a home of there own but then comes the Casual man to steal there virtual land to build Theme parks and add big yellow question marks over the npc's heads and to top it off add Group based instanced pvp with no fear of dying, all so that the Casual man can get his/her instant glory in the color of purple pushing the OG players into what you like to call a NICHE, True story.

I wonder why DF is getting the most votes.

Imagine if someone pasted a link to this poll on the WoW forums?

    In fact.

Someone post a link on the WoW forums.

I wanna see how DF holds up then.

If you think WoW PvP is only about learning comps, then you won't get past 1500.

And your earlier comment, I wonder how the hell is DF's combat so hard when you got those big ass hitboxes and AoE radius on most spells.

MMO Combat will never be that great, no matter how you spin it around.

It was once, very easily, Dark Age of Camelot, almost no game to date has matched what DAoC did in terms of scale and innovation. But, patches and declining numbers have made me retire DAoC as king PvP MMO. It is now very obvious the king is between EvE and Darkfall.

The fact that WoW is rating so highly just shows what is wrong with the MMO industry today. They cannot seperate casual non consequential PvP with almost no variables, tacked onto a PvE raiding game (WoW) with real PvP systems like Eve. DAoC had both,c asual and real PvP inside of it, one served as training to the other. Good system.

In terms of PvP, it's the MMO I consider my own "gold standard". Almost everything goes back to PvP.

    My Reasons:
PvP anyone, anytime, almost anywhere (except in towns).

    - Territory Wars

    - Castle Sieges

    - Fortress Sieges

    - Clan Hall Sieges

    - Fighting for Raid Bosses

    - Clan Wars

    - Fighting for xp'ing spots

    - Seven Signs (which ties into Castle Sieges, which ties into PvP)

    - Olympiad (though it's admittedly abused)

The factionless setup allows for a very dynamic and fluid balance of power; who's aligned with who, who shows up at sieges, even if they're not signed to attack/defend, just to interfere with a clan they're warred with on either side, etc. Small skirmishes of 5 on 5 can escalate into much larger battles, and up to 200+ per side during sieges is pretty common, especially for the larger castles.
And, in all cases, the PvP has purpose in the game. It's not just all random ganking for the sake of showing how uber you are. Most everything you PvP for has an influence on *some* aspect of the game, directly or indirectly.
There's a lot more I could go into in terms of specific exampls, etc... but suffice to say that for PvP, L2 is the only MMO I feel has gotten it "right". Now if only NC were as good at dealing with RMT :-/

Lineage 2 also gets my vote hands down. A real pvp game has to be open pvp where you always know that anything can happen. It also has to have pvp that effects they overall game. Its a shame that most people dont know that Lineage 2 all about PVP.

DAOC had the best pvp ever, end of discussion.  I also really liked UO, back in the day, but DAOC trumps it.  I also was a hardcore UO player, my home was Siege Perilous.

Darkfall was a bitch to play.  All the mashing keys to go from fps view to third person view, to pick up loot view, etc.  I mean wtf?  Why not just pick a view and be done with it!  Not to mention you could spend a while mining or harvesting resources, just to have some bastard high level come kill you and steal all your loot.  So its harsh.  I wouldn't say it was 'best' at all.

Shadowbane was also lots of fun, too bad no one else liked it :P

I don't like space games, so I haven't explored Eve much.

World of Warcraft... From what I experienced in beta, it was fun.  I mean a lot of fun.  However, in the current game, I don't really like the battlegrounds.  You get people who have like +50 vitality or some crazy shit like that, and they are all twinked out.  It isn't very fair.  Yes, you can do this in all games, but in WOW I don't think there is a cap on how much the bonuses from items effect your level (like there was in DAOC).

WAR - Go ahead and laugh, but I haven't played it past beta, because my wife doesn't approve of the graphics.  Laugh it up, yes I respect my wife.

Every now and again, I reminisce about the battles in DAOC.  Both the battle grounds and old fronteer, and on Gareth.  The Labyrinth was ... ok.

In any case, no one will ever beat DAOC pvp.  If anyone is voting for something else, it is because they just haven't tried it.
