For me its more like a car crash. You cant help be watch something thats messed up. For many, watching them sell ships for thousands of bucks is messed up, but seeing people buy them is even more fun to watch. Im fine with people spending their money how they want but it still worth a chuckle. Go on and get mad at me, but you heard me. Im laughing at you =D
Meh people walk around with $65,000 rocks on their fingers, and 25k handbags...
Ok, lets paint a picture, in one hand I have rings worth 65k and I have in the other a code that gives you 65k worth of digital space ships. What one do you want me to give you? Second question, 20 years from now what one do you want to be holding? Ya, I stand by my point, fun to watch. I really hope they get the game they want =-)
Missed my edit:).. Do you really think that's their motive in making such purchases? A $25k handbag will look like trash in a few years, yet they still buy it... because they can, and it is more or less pocket change to some. As I said who is the joke really on? All I can say if they have that kind of money, they're doing better at life than I.. To them my entire life is a train wreck, "aww look at the poor fellows who have to think about bills"...

Personally I would rather take the digital.
I am all behind you for laughing at people buying virtual spaceships, I am not however behind you on defending 65k dollar rings, 25k handbags or for that matter $50,000 trucks that never get used as a truck which I might add dose not increase in value.
and more specifically as an example even though I dont understand spending $2k on a virtual spaceship I personally understand that MORE than I understand spending $2k on a vacation in Las Vegas
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Maybe I am just to practical. By what you posted, I would much rather have the rocks worth 65k =-) To each their own. Even if I had millions I would not spend 1-2k on a digital space ship. If I am going to fork out money, big money on something. I would want a return on my investment. I would sooner drop more money and want a cut of the pie. In the end, the current market value for a digital item in a cash shop is 10-50 bucks. How they are getting away with 350-2k I dont get lol. As I posted above, I really hope this works out for everyone invested in the project. Personally I think its going to flop one way or another. Hell the game could even release and there is all sorts of ways things could still go wrong. As a gamer, this will continue to be something fun to watch =-)

I'm sure we all like to think we'd be different if we were filthy rich, hard to say until that day comes.. That said to answer your question.. IMO a lot of it is ego, people will know how much that ship costs, as it flies by them... going back to the point of spending 25k on handbags, it's all essentially the same thing. "Look at what I have and you do not."
For the game itself, who knows, I don't think about that stuff until a game is actually a game that can be played in full.

I think hate is a strong word in all honesty. But why? Because 90% of the time it is not about the game but about the store. From threads, articles etc. I know a lot more about the SC store then I do about the actual game. It just rubs people the wrong way and that is not even considering some of the prices that seem, well, a bit outlandish to some and downright offensive to others. Their focus seems to be on gathering as much money as possible and not about delivering a great game within a reasonable time frame, at least, that is how it is perceived.

LOL as Sean said, that's just one example.... What about 20 thousand dollar shoes? 10k dresses that will fall apart after a year of wear, 1000's on a chocolate treat? Nothing is surprising when it comes to how much some will spend on what others view as ridiculous. My point wasn't about value, it was about ego, but you have to spell things out for people around here.. I forget that sometimes..lol

its funny because I did follow SC about a year ago and they were late for the very first release date and at presentation his wife said 'CR is well known for being late' and that was when I decided to wait.
Being known for being late and scams,Embezzlement, and illegal firing processes is not even close to the same thing
Yeah, I mean look at Brad McQuaid. It seems like we're willing to give a break to people who embezzle money AND pay them a monthly subscription fee for thin air. Being late is COMPLETELY unacceptable though.
Except Mcquaids kickstarter for Pantheon didnt get fund (not even close) so they regrouped and are doing whatever theyre doing now to try and scam money from people.
You dont really need kickstarter to scam people it just sort of lends credibility to the scam.
In the case of Star Citizen Kickstarter basically kickstarted their ability and hubris to start selling jpegs of ships. Another thing I also forgot to mention before. The first jpegs were 'reasonably' priced at around 30-50 bucks. That was a toe tester, once they realized they had so many fish on the line the prices started increasing exponentially. Then to maximize it even more they just changed the skins of already nonexistent ships and made different 'versions' (knowing that if they ever really did have to make them they only had to change some colors and add or take away a gun or whatever).
In the beginning it was all 'innocent' enough. I also suspect the defense he will give once it all gets exposed is just that. "we started out with the best intentions, things got away from us, we took advantage and we tried to deliver a game, we even tried agter we knew we couldnt do it with the available funds we had, so we spent all the money we 'raised' and what you see is what you get''. Now if he REALLY has balls he might even try the whole "we learned our lesson we have an independent accounting agency/person handling ALL the money going forward, we WANT to make this game so if people can continue to support it it WILL get made".
I give the first one about an 80% chance of happening. If the first one happens then I give the second scenario a 40% chance of happening. Because the guy really thinks he is a gift to the MMO world and like McQuaid will think people are stupid enough to just keep handing over money to proven scammers.
What do you mean by "so many fish"? You do realize that the average buy is $100 and the more people that buy into $1000, $2500, $30000 packages, the lower that average spend for the majority gets? Honestly, if more than 20% of people spent $120, I would be seriously surprised.
The "milking the masses" argument simply doesn't fly. If you can objectively look at the numbers and show how this all works out that he's milking a high percentage of people, I'll be more than happy to listen. In reality, it's likely that 5-10% of people are funding over 50% of the game.

boats has a declining resale value.
Virtual goods typically have an increasing sales value. I bet you didnt know that.
Money is set to what people feel has value. PEROID. if a boat is perceived to have value then like overpriced stocks it does. regardless. same is true for virtual goods

*snore* fell asleep after you mentioned the 2014 deliver date. Take this stick, there's the dead horse. Once you're done with that one, if you've got energy left you can take on the whole $2-3 million dollar issue. Been covered ad nauseam and if you can't accept those answers then no answer will.
Enter a whole lot of speculative information that is supported by zero fact and TADA!!!! Every Anti-SC argument in the past month.
Please.......
Oh, and don't forget to have fun.
So wait: you're ignoring where he refutes your point about it being a "releasable state" game by cherry-picking an old issue he mentions in his post and completely writing off everything else based on that one cherry-picked issue? O.o
The feature creep argument can be justified by saying the backers "wanted" it (though I would find it interesting to see how they arrived at this consensus opinion, just to double-check), but you ignored his very particular response to your claim that SC is in a releasable state.. And I'd have to agree with him. It's nowhere near a releasable state. And it isn't anywhere near where E:D was at its launch.
No, it's not polished. However, there are plenty-a-game that have released in worse states. There are plenty of games that have shipped recently in a worse state.
Specialists will tell you that in cases like this what comes first in our mind is a sort of self reflection. I presume that you have something in common with the gentleman in the second pic. Like him when you open your mouth what comes out is mostly BS.
Virtual goods typically have an increasing sales value. I bet you didnt know that.
I would love to hear how you are reselling your virtual Star Citizen ships for a profit. What I know about this game, is that there's no opportunity to resell those things for real life money. Are we wrong?

From what I have read, the ships you buy can be blown up and never recovered. If thats true, this is even more funny. I get you will say boats can be broken as well but the difference is the point of the game is to blow up peoples ships. Thats not the goal of boats in the real world.

I do not think that is accurate no.
I am all on the side of 'several thousand dollar virtual ships are silly' but then suggesting that there is basically no such thing as a vanity product is just being silly.
why is it impossible for critics of SC to not be the least bit polarized.

I just love how everyone took my point to be about value... people spend this kind of money on things that are literally sent down the toilet a few hours later... deserts, beverages, entree's. etc... It has nothing to do with value, it's all about ego boosting..
