To be fair it couldn't possibly be worse than the decision to use the hero engine for SWTOR. I mean, at least the graphics will look good and they can't blow $300 million because they don't have $300 million.
I know i love that. People weren't off whinging about SWTOR and them spending like 150million just on stupid voice acting. Or like you said, using the hero engine, quite possibly the worst engine ever made. At least cry engine is a good engine, efficient, etc.
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
What part of he has actual Crytech engineers modifying the engine don't you comprehend?
Bren
There's lots of "crytek engineers" walking around jobless atm, considering crytek stopped paying them lol.
No they aren't, they're all working at CIG. Feel free to check out Linkedin and have a peek at all the CIG employees and their previous employer. There are over 100 Crytek employees working for CIG.
Yeah they hopped on a bus from Germany and went to the USA :P ( you do know Crytek is german right :P )
Hey, I hate always having to do every's homework. Linkedin is just a click away I already did the digging once before and, as we've learned, logic is irrelevant with these people

Being a layman or expert on the CE3 engine does not matter. After all this time and all these millions wasted on building an engine to make SC work is down the drain. What Roberts said goes right to the point, they built an engine CryTek engineers told him a long time ago would not work with what he wanted to do. So some left some are still there some may be waiting till after holidays to leave. Time will tell on that issue. But we can clearly see from Roberts comments he has been throwing millions away on an engine that will not do what he wants it to do.
So this means two things. Start over building an engine that will do what he wants, which will take millions more, or bs the people that bought into his lies about CE3 and find the right time to close it all up. We all know where I stand on this.
Have fun following the millions!

Was SWTOR crowd funded? It's slightly different when it's someone else's money.

Wow, hiring a whole team of guys who previously said it could not be done, so as to make it so it can be done? LOL! It already has released according to CR. At least in regards to trying to get refunds.
This thread...sand meet head.
Guys with brains see it for what it is (another) video setting up a way to get more money from people.
This guy could be given a Great White shark (the perfect eating machine) and try to remake it 'better'. Its been his knock since forever. His spin to make money was 'industry keeping me down and forcing em to deliver unfinished products to people'. Fast forward 10-15 years and he has done the same thing (to keep from refunding money). But is also lends credence to everything everyone said about the guy. Always producing never delivering. This game is proof positive of that. Except now he himself is the benficiary (financially) of this perpetual cycle.
first he wanted ot remake the game. When peopel told him it wasnt possible he didnt care he has tens of millions that said it was. Now that the coffers are nearly empty (if you believe the reports, and anecdotal evidence would suggest theyre true) he need to remake something else or at least claim the need to remake something else to deliver his 'vision'.
The more that comes out on this the more obvious it becomes. The best cons always have a bit of truth and half truths in them.
In the end everyone is chasing the money. I dont think those Crytek guys are working for free, and once the paychecks stop so do they. But looks like theyre used to that anyway. So once that happens (when not if) I am sure there will be more dirty laundry aired, and the true believers will spin it like they have everything else...disgruntled ex employees, while people who can form an independent thought will see it as just ANOTHER example of this thing picking up speed before it finally craters in spectacular fashion.

That is Roberts in a nut shell. That is why he can't be in charge of any project and why his other business never released a game and closed up. The guy is a dreamer and yes some of his dreams are amazing. But he can't be the lead in any game because he has no sense of control to stop and say OK this can be done that can't be done, he just keeps going forward and ignores all the advice he is given. It has been said from a lot of people he is not fun to work for.
Just sad that up to this point all that money that could of made a great game is gone and reality seems to finally sinking in to Roberts head.
Go on guys give him another 100m maybe he will wake up and make better decisions.
Wow, really, again. This is the second time (in this post)that people, trying to butt in into something they do not really understand.
Please, if you do not comprehend it, do not partake in it. The whole cryengine thing and its issue is not something that general people would understand. Its very technical, watch the video of CR again, and if you do not understand the whole 'explanation' that CR is trying to describe, just shut up. It is not as simple as 'its not really working, so lets try tweak some more.' There is a big difference between making a 'makeshift' bridge that may or may not colapse after few usage, and a bridge that can withstand a thyphoon. This is engineering.
Let me put this very politely, you do not understand this issue. This is very technical. Do not persume that you understand things just because a charismatic person says 'trust me and what I say'.
Let me give me an illustration: 1. Imagine u have a bike, 350 cc engine. Runs fast with you on it right? 2. Try taking a pessenger. Still runs fast right? 3. Take the engine out, and put it in a car. Put 4 people inside, probably still runs. Does it run fast, probably not. 4. Now try putting in it in a double decker bus. Do you think it will run?
Calling others ignorant and then posting what you did so far.....eww...
Your comparison to car engines just illustrates that only silimilarity you comprehend there, is the word "engine", while being completely oblivious to what software engine actually is.
Game "engine" is a development kit, libraries. It is a tool used to build, not to "run" something and they are still developing a game, no such leap there. Game engines can be viewed as a middleware and as such, they often consist of various middleware components - physics, rendering, AI, etc.
The amount of modifications to software scales with complexity of your demands.
This applies not to games only but to any technology and there is no way for an outsider to evaluate what is doable, or better - feasible, because it is often very difficult to gauge even for the company itself.
Whether build inhouse or go commercial is never easy decision and most of the time, only time tell.

And you can wish for SC to fail as long as you want, its most probably not gonna happen, seems like your common sense went on a vacation these days.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

That makes no sense at all. But then again anyone that supports Roberts seems to throw all common sense out the window. It really is sad how the guy has made this whole SC into a war so he can keep the millions rolling in.
Yeeeah think i'm out of this, whole topic is just wiping up into a frenzy of crazy assumptions and opinions even with a clear plan english quote and people jumping on the drama train without trying understand or read what was linked.
People with true independent thoughts see both sides are blinded idiots to their hate and fandom.
You can read everything I have said about this game since it became apparent what was going on. Even though I have openly admitted I want it to fail and fail hard I still wouldnt categorize that as 'hate'. Certainly the times I point out flaws isnt hate, thats for sure.
This game and CR to some extent represent everything thats WRONG with crowdfunding and the zealots who claim they want independence from the 'industry'. Because they are now themselves 'the industry' and theyre doing the same if not worse to the genre than any publisher that release a piece of shit and called it good. The old companies took money from people who could afford it, and they didnt take any money from anyone except box fee and/or sub fee.
These kickstarter guys sell a bunch of dreams (and anything else they can affix a price tag to) and fleece 'regular' people, and whales obviously and really dont deliver anything.
To me thats not 'hate' thats common sense. The fact that they all use the excuses that the 'industry' used to use in regards to time tables and all that (after they originally said they could make games faster and cheaper) shows how much it has changed. And really none of them have been delivered. Other than Elite Dangerous. Any other 'big name' kickstarter or crowdfunding game doesnt exist, ran away with the funds, or is having problems. The best chance to 'succeed' was TheRepopulation and that one is now basically dead in the water as well.
To me those are facts, not hate.
I want SC to fail because it epitomizes all of the bad. And I genuinely feel the only way to get MMO development back on a 'normal' track is to have the crowdfunding aspect of it completely implode. Now is THAT hateful? Maybe but its for the greater good of the whole genre. SC will never succeed. But if it producing ANYTHING the sheep can grasp onto thats enough to make it a 'success' to them and any other clown with a 'vision' and an ability to raise a lot of money will produce more half assed crap for people to buy into. And we will never ever see another worthwhile game again.
Which is what people are really losing sight of. 2015 already the worst year ever in terms of MMO releases, off a 2014 that wasnt any good either, and other than more hype train crap he future looks as bleak as it ever has. Considering anything in the thought process now wont see the light of day for 5-7 years thats along time to go without anything that is worthwhile.

I just said you cant evaluate if he does his job right or not, as long as you didnt work with him, makes sense, doesnt it? And yes, i can say something about you because i see what you are doing on this forum and thats all im refering to, that also makes sense, doesnt it?
Maybe you dont like CR and you have some problems with him as a person, but that doenst mean that he is doing a bad job, you are just trying to discredit him for some reason only you know.

I think you are confusing common sense with faith. Putting faith in CR is fine if that's what you want to do, but it doesn't mean that the game is guaranteed to release. It just means you believe it will. Again, there can't be projects like this without it. But that dosn't mean someone else is at fault for feeling concerned.
But common sense here, looks at the situation as a whole and makes it's judgement there. To me....Common sense says there is cause for concern. Not to say it's doomed, but to deny someone who says it doesn't look good right now is not common sense.
Not defending the guy as im not really interested in the game and all the fun drama around it, but there is not really any alternative to Cry engine there.
While its network feature might suck, it was used in many mmos in the past, even if they where heavily modified.
Point is making engine that could handle this sort of level of visual fidelity at decent performance would take years. Its a lot cheaper and faster to just hire old cry tech programmers at a discount and add and modify the networking code.
Then again, that put aside I do believe at least half of what the rumor say about the guy and the game development. This sort of stuff don't come out of no where but It usually is exaggerated :P
Same reason why I would NEVER pay for unfinished game, or any other product. I might not like it when its done
People with true independent thoughts see both sides are blinded idiots to their hate and fandom.

Pretty much that is hate. Crusaders thought they were protecting people and that justified what they did as not hate. You are really not protecting or saving anyone. You are lashing out because Of strong emotional attachment.
Whales will always spend their money on a dream. Normal people say I'm not giving my money and walk away. Wanting it to fail to save the industry will not work because the industry is not the problem. The problem is the people.
A fool and his money will soon be parted is a time honored tradition.
IMO there is cause for concern and this is one of many reasons. Should people support this game? Thats personal and none of my business or anyone elses. Myself, I wont touch a game like this till its released. I have bought crowd funded games but again not till there was a product I could hold in my hand. Will say this, the drama is fun to watch. Will be fun to see how this plays out over the years to come. No matter what way it goes this will be epic lol.
Of course people can evaluate Roberts work by researching his past and listening to people that worked for him. By what you are saying no one can discuss anyone including Presidents, actors and so on because we never actually worked with them. That is complete BS, we can evaluate people by reading what they have said and what others have said about them.
It is safe to say what people have said and what Roberts himself have said that Wing Commander would most likely never have released if Roberts wasn't keep under control and stopped from wanting to change things at a moments notice. it's all there in black and white. There is a very good reason why people have said Roberts should not be in control of any game that is under development yet you guys just want to ignore all those facts.
It isn't faith to not trust or trust Roberts it is common sense to NOT trust him.

Maybe you dont like CR and you have some problems with him as a person, but that doenst mean that he is doing a bad job, you are just trying to discredit him for some reason only you know.
