Ya the Oren pictures are from a long time. Even before Sea of Spores was there(actually it was there, it was just a desert with the few buildings) it was because I accidently found a bug to get over the mountains. Anyway, Rockk, everyone thinks the prices are too high, but we still pay, not because we are too cheap or we don't have enough, but because it is right. You are taking money from a game developer that might have worked hard to put it together(atleast the Korean company of NCsoft). Rockk, you can't really say anything about Lineage 2 cause the grind and the community is different. Also, there are not that many farmers and botters as there used to be.

How can you say that? You DON'T pay for it. If you were actually willing, wouldn't you shell out that 15 bucks a month? Listen to yourself for a second--you say L2 is the greatest game ever, and deserves so much respect, but yet you can't even bother yourself to pay for it. That's pretty pathetic.

Wrong.  I killed many adena bots and they would drop inventory items all the time.  In one sitting, about 6 hours of killing bots, I also was able to get a full set of brigs and  a  tarbar.   I know these were items that were equiped because when the bot came back, they were missing the loot item from their visible equipment.  Was very funny  to see the one that dropped the tarbar attempt to farm with fists.  Now I got pretty lucky with these drops, but the statement that you can't drop gear without kharma is incorrect.  You can, just not very likely.
Of course u have to PLAY at least 6 months to get a B weapon (a is much harder), cause u must be level 52 to be equiped in B. So, Cronicles 1 had max level 75, like cronicles 2 too.
6 months to get to level 52 is slow for u?
Problem is not 6 months to get to 52.  Levelling can be fast, but you can very quickly outlevel your gear then you have to delevel to be able to get drops or hope you get lucky.  Otherwise, you have to farm greens for hours at a snail pace to make the cash to xp ratio that allows you to purchase a decent weapon.

If you're good at the game and learn how to play the market, good gear isn't hard to come by.
But then again, if it takes you '1+ years' to reach A-grade level.. you really shouldn't be shopping for A-grade 6 months into the game, huh? Good job throwing numbers around.
Oh, and you can't drop weapons in siege zone unless you're red, and you can't go red in siege zone so..

I don't pretend that L2 is perfect but if you're gonna put it down atleast come up with reasons that make sense. image

No, not exaggerating at all.  Look what class you play/played.  Shillien Elder.  What weapon do you use?   Probably the Crystal staff with mana up option.  Middle of the line C grade gear.  Why would you need to get anything better?  Better weapon doesn't increase your heals nor your buffs so no use.  Hell your clan probably gave you hand me down gear because you play a healer class.  Try playing a melee or tank class and come back and tell me about how cheap it is to get gear. I have a level 48 EE and a level 48 Elven Knight.  It was way more expensive to equip my knight than my Elder.  Top C gear for my elder ran me about 2 mill.  Top C grade armor for my knight ran me 4.5 million.  That's the cheap part.  The weapon is 2 to 3 times that amount.  My knight was broke at level 48 and was still using a stormbringer, very bottom of the line C grade sword.  At the exp rate I was getting, I would not have been able to afford even a top C grade weapon before I was 52, not to mention the 20 million it was gonna cost me for good B grade armor, at 52 and double that for a good B grade weapon, at approximately 500 to 600 adena per drop rate.

If I decide I want to play a grinding game full of adena sellers, farmers, bots, exploiters and gankers, I will jump right in to Lineage II.

Unless those bots died to mobs there is simply no way they could've dropped anything. I used to help perma-red characters on their farmer-killing runs all the time.. I witnessed atleast a few hundred PKs. Not ONCE did they drop an item. Plus it's written in NCSoft's guide that white and purple players that die to players cannot drop items.. so either your memory is at fault or you're making it up.

You should not rely only on mob drops for adena. I made enough money just from crafting and selling Doom shields to equip my healer and archer alt. Yes it's true that healers are cheaper to upkeep and my clan definitely helped with A grade (most of which came from raids).. but it's also true that all my archer friends (archers = adena sinks) have found ways to equip themselves by playing the market.

BTW you played a temple knight? lol ..No wonder you hated the game ^.^

I read these kinda of reviews, and let me tell you, they are WRONG!!!
THE game appeared in 2003, yes, but it missed many features, wich are now implemented , via add ons, named CHRONICLES. SInce 2003, when the beta tests were over, they made 3 Chronicles, the third one appeared just this year, and let me tell you something. THe game doesen t miss anything.
When it comes to graphics, it beats by far WOW or any other contendants. The Way C, B or A graded armors look, it s simpley incredible. You can see them all here: http://lineage2.xenemy.com/all_a_grade_armors.htm
Another thing i noticed when i read these pooreley made reviews. THE editors of the article didn t even reach level 20!!!! At level 20 the game really starts. So don t even write a review if u haven t played till level 52, when u receive B graded armor, wich is fabulous.
PETS in the game include Striders and flying wyrm. Nothing compares to a stryder, i have never seen in a game such a magnificiant creature, and it surs, u can rideit, or fight with it. It s superb. This is my strider:
    imageimage image

Another negative thing of this site. I wanted to see some pictures from the game, i noticed that all the pictures are in EXTREMLEYLOW QUALITY, so many artifacts, u can t even see the characters faces!!!!! It s insane. I don t even want to speculate why are u doing this. Maybe the game is to popular in asia, and it s getting extremley Popular in EUrope. Maybe other mmorpg game companys are affraid of this game. And they should be cause it s more then any other mmoprg i ever played, including the childish WOw.

If you don t have the time, at least 2 hours per day for playing, don t even try it. THis game Provokes ADDICTION. I played for 1.5 years, and i didn t get tired of it.
L2 has a huge world, constantly updated by the producers of the game , via Chronicles, wich are FREE, just like the game. EVERYTHING LOOKS AND FEELS Incredible. It s the most beautifull designed game i have ever seen. THe weapons are a piece of art, each. THe armors are majestic, the characters, classics.
Nothing looks as innocent and cute as a little dwarf girl, or big and mean as an orc, or beutifull life an elven girl, or incredibley sexy like a dark elf girl. THE GAME HAS NUMEROUS QUESTS, but it doesen t matter.
THE GAME HAS A LIFE OF IT S own. You can do WHATEVER YOU WANT!! You don t have to do quests, u don t have to go places, u can adventure urself to see the beautifull locations, or go with a friend to conquer the wolrd, sail away ona boat, or model the world of L2 by ur actions. You can achieve power, and become a dominant force in the game.
THe game is just like real life, just that is more direct. The attention to details and balance of characters , is incredible.

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE GAME FREE , from NCSOFT OFFICIAL SITE!!! www.lineage2.com . You can find private, LEGAL servers, where you can play via google , or pay to play on the official server 15 dollars per month.

I only play this game on my PC since i got it. And i mnot a kid, i have a good job, nice life, etc. I m not obsessed with it, it s just that it s the most enjoyable game i ever played, and i played them almost all.
So, a 6 out of 10 is ridiculous. Lineage 2 is the Ferrari of MMORPG`s.
I hope u ll respect my opinion and don t delete this post. I sugest to the editors of this site to REVIEW LINEAGE 2 with it s fresh 2005 chronicle 3. Just to be fair and square.
    Thank u.
p.S u have a beutifull site, and extremley well structured. Keep it up.
Real HIgh Quality SCREENSHOTS made by me from the game:

The only thing this game has IS great graphics and castle seiges. The game has no depth and a pvp sytem that is a grifer system. Thre reason it got so many bad reviews was because of all the bots and farmers.

The camel that broke the straws back.... was watching my gf drop gear after killing a guy who flagged. She was immediately struck down and dropped some gear. The system showed she killed an innocent who was white but that was not the case. I wouldnt have believed her , had i not seen it for myself.

The guy she killed had been mad cause she killed him earlier for killing lowbies. Thats when she brought her main back and killed him a couple times. Thats when she got a threat ----he said "just wait , try that again". SO she did and thats when she dumped her gear.

I had heard of that exploit or whatever you want to call it in beta and ncsoft failed to recognize it as a problem. I could give a fck about the gear, my guild or I could have replaced it easily enough.

So like a few people said............. farmers bots hackers exploiters. And seriously I dont care to learn chinese anymore. Any review that gave that game a 6 was being more than generous.

Rockk, kid, please, shut up! PvP Games are NOT about uber graphics! If I wanted to play game for graphics, I'd keep playing HL2. Drop this "L2 graphics are better than your games, therefore it's a better game" crap.

Does anyone know if they delete characters from cancelled accounts?

I have so many toons on a couple of different servers from the open beta (if you remember, they let you keep your OPEN beta character into retail), and wouldn't mind giving it another shot if I can play my level 20 toon again.

BTW: I think he is on Kain if anyone plays on that server.

I'm playing on Kain again also and as Greatness said, they don't delete them. I came back and there was my level 33 fighter on Bartz. I started over though as I wanted to see the n00by experience again, and lemme just say they made it soo much better. If you come back, start a new character and do the n00by quests up to level 20. It rocks.image

Ok, like...old dude... i said the graphics rock, and l2 brings one of the best desing in mmorpg s at date. Graphics in a game are a big plus, it s always nice to see a beautifull world in fron of ur eyes:D C graded armor rule. And btw u make the most money from selling enchant armors and crafting ur own items. Even if u don t like dworfs it pays money and items to make a little scavenger dwarf. besides ur main character..but wha tdo i know...i just had like 4-5 level 50+ characters :D

    My New Gear. Muhahahhahah :D

NCSoft's guide link.  I don't see anywhere where it states white or purple players will never drop items.  I played this game from closed beta and at various stages through C2.  I can tell you without a doubt in my mind, white con bots, who had never pkd anyone because they are set to not fight back, dropped items to my perma red ranger.

You should not rely only on mob drops for adena. I made enough money just from crafting and selling Doom shields to equip my healer and archer alt. That's fine if you want to play a dorf.  However, only the dorf class can craft, unless you get lucky and find one that is not charging more for use of the creation than the item is worth.

BTW you played a temple knight? lol ..No wonder you hated the game ^.^

TK is the best PvE knight in the game.  They get the highest block rate so their shield defense is almost a perma inclusive in their defense factor.  Add to this, in C3 they get a self buff that allows for 360 degree shield blocking.  They crit twice as often as a human knight and have a lot more hits than a SK.  Humans have more hits because they need them, but an Elf knight in proper knight armor can keep pretty close in hits.  Add to this, TK has, not one, but two heal pets that are uninteruptable, and two DD pets that are uninteruptable.  True they can't have all 4 out at once but they can be very tough to kill if they have them out and the pets are playing properly.  Lag is a factor there.  And, since 95% of the high level mobs are undead and the TK is the only knight with a self undead damage buff, you do the numbers.

Too tired and drunk to read through 17 pages of junk, so this is just a direct reply to the original poster...

    I agree completely...

Lineage 2 is easily one of the most underrated games (in North America... popular as hell in Korea)...

The problem is, litterally 99% of the people who review it, do so with knowledge of the craptastic Open Beta, which really was one of the worst OB's ever...

But now fact is, Lineage 2 has completely turned itself around in the course of 3 HUGE updates (Chronicles) and numerous patches... The L2 staff have really made a dramatic change too... Maybe somebody finally came down from Korea and smacked them around a bit...

It's funny looking back and reading the reviews, and going over the most common complaints, then realising that litterally EVERY single one of them has been fixed... Everything from alleviating the grind (especially in lower levels) to cleaning out the adena farmers... it's been dealt with... It's a wonderful thing when a company can listen to their users...

Now, I can understand one particular reason it may not be everyones cup of tea, and that's the PvP-based gameplay... there are indeed quite a few people out there who (for some odd reason) want absolutely nothing to do with PvP... But for the majority, the people who play to win, and mop the floor with your enemies, I say Lineage 2 is the game to play...

But anyways... Really, Lineage 2 may not have been the epitome of greatness back in OB, that's for sure... But after numerous patches, chronicles and GM beatings, what's left is an awesome, beautiful, PvP gamers dream...

What it comes down to is, no other game has ever been able to change itself for the better as much as Lineage 2... You see other games that constantly update with complaints flying left, right and center, but Lineage 2 ONLY gets better... Every chronicle/patch is very well thought out, and only adds goodness to the game...

Take it from me... I too am one of those people who once left L2... after months of grinding, bots and poor customer support, I finally could NOT take it anymore... however, coming back into the game it's like night and day... Bot's are sparse, and dying by the day... There are absolutely NO dupers/hackers of any kind (not like there were many in the first place... maybe in OB the occasional duper... kind of hard to hack in a server-side game =P), GM's actually give a shit... the grind is MUCH MUCH MUCH less noticable (TONS of new hunting grounds for people of all level's, and plenty more to do while you're not "grinding"), and the community is generally nicer...

There has never been a better time to play L2...

Everything in this game is no doubt insanely great. But after playing for 8 months the farmers, hackers, and the rampant bots destroyed this game for me. If ncsoft would listen to the players and fix this then it would be seriously one of the best mmo's by far!!

I just want to reiterate that reds dont drop anything until they have like 4 or 5 kills andt here are new easier ways of redeeming one's self, so pvp justice for all.  And anyone who is bashing him for playing on the free server shouldn't ebay or buy from IGE.  That is all.

OK, I'll bash him for playing on illegal servers. No, I don't ebay ingame items, nor do I buy from IGE; in the games I play it's not in the least necessary. Are you implying that it is necessary in Lineage 2?

Well... I got my serial code in the mail today and started playing. Char creation is lacking but I can deal. As for the game itself: I Like It!

It reminds me alot of UO. Easy to learn but not overly simple. Combat kind of like Shadowbane. Also I had 2 people attempt to PK me within the first 20 minutes! Whooo Hooo!. This is my kind of game. My only beef about that is that these idiots are trying to bait newbs by attacking then waiting for the newbs to attack back thus allowing the PKers to kill without going red. I caught on during the first attempt but the idiots keep trying anyway. I even had a real red try to kill me. Exciting stuff.

If killing 50 wolves to get to level 7 is the grind fest you guys were talking about I have no problem what so ever. I like moving up slowly knowing after a lot of hard work I can take part in Clan wars and seiges. Hell I am dying to get back to it. I know these are just my first impressions but most games out there started to smell like garbage during the first 30 minutes. This one has me hooked and it has been hours.

If you liked UO give this a shot. It's worth it so far.

No, man thats not the grind part :) you havnt hit it yet.
But you'll probably need to get to lvl 40 or so before a clan even looks at you with any interest of recrtuiting, maybe lvl 52+. And that will take several months of grinding. Maybe just a few months if you've a lot of time on your hands. But once you finaly get there it can be realy great.
I wish the game leveled on a curve so that getting to higher levels took less time and then slowed down to normal as you approached 40. NCsoft should have "westernized" the game, I'd be drooling all over it if they had.

Yes, this game is just like real life. Everytime I wake up I beat on creatures for hours on end hoping to gain enough experience to learn something.

This game has lots of great features and they are all ruined by the terribly boring grind.

never played the game so have no opinion on whether good or not, but the people comparing graphics to other games grow the fuck up! why do people bum graphics, its one of the least important aspects, and people who base arguments on graphics are in the same league as my dad is bigger than your dad!!!!!!!
its like saying the quality of the chicken im about to eat is dependant on its packaging!!!!!!!

Lineage II could be an awesome game, except it is made for the Korean market and that style of game play will not sell in the states, and top that with the cheats and adena farmers that permeate the game and it will never be as popular as it could be in the states.

NCSoft needs to let the US version be made to fit our playstyle.  They need to relax the need to live the game(leveling post 20 is a serious grind for only the most dedicated gamers).  They need to fix the rules governing PvP.  NCSoft  needs to actively persue and remove the adena farmer from the game.   The game is incredible in so many ways, but the shortcomings it has will forever doom it to being a 3rd rate MMORPG in the NA market.

There are two possible answers to this question.

For some of us it is very clear why this has to be the way it is, while for some others, it isn't as obvious as one might be led to believe.

Here is my two possible answers:

    1. Screen Quota:
Media uses reviews/previews as form of protectionism for a given market that it serves.
So don't be surprised if a given local media tends to incline (with good review + extensive coverage) towards one native product while trying to suppress other products from another country.

    2. Cultural disparity:
Every games are culturally distinct. It bears the philosophy, trait, cultural identity of its creators. Anything inbetween are generally left for free interpretation.

i.e. L2 are intense on group warfare both in scale and hardcoreness than any other products on the current market. L2 is hierachical. Difference in individual stat/lvl means next to nothing when we are talking about 400 vs 400 all lvl 70-75 clanites taking orders from uber-players who have thirst for barrels of blood.

For some culture, even the thought arouses a sense of intimidation.

    [/quote]

I played the game for quite a long time as well (1 level 68, 1 level 52, 1 level 49 and some assorted chars around level 40). I have to add: I played on one of the legitimate retail servers, and not on a private server like you. By the way, no private server is legal. So my view might be quite different from yours for that reason.

First off, if it hadn't been for my clan, I would have quit after about 2 months. Any game can be fun when you play it with the right people, in my opinion.

What ultimately made me quit about a month ago was the massive grind. Grind for adena (the ingame currency), grind for gear, grind for levels. The grind on the legitimate servers is MASSIVE. The problem is: there's not an aweful lot of variety in the game. Most quests (95% I would say) are of the sort 'kill 100 of these type of mobs and get reward' or 'walk all across to the other side of the map to talk to an NPC and then come back'. But that's a common problem in most games of this type. What else is there?

Oh yes, PvP. You get killed by people with overgimped gear and loose a truck load of XP and maybe even gear, which you all have to grind back again. It wouldn't have pissed me off so much if it weren't for the fact that most of these 'leet PvPers' magically grow back THEIR lost XP during the night (botting program called L2Walker) and if they lose gear...Oh well, they just Ebay some.

The economy is indeed created by players but ruled by professional adena farmers, who farm and camp the good hunting spot 24 hours a day (again: L2Walker anyone?). They sell any drops for silly high prices, and the adena they make is sold on Ebay/IGE. Prices were skyrocketing on the server in no time. The dominant clans on the server, who make use of botting programs, Ebay and powerleveling services the most, actually protect these adena farmers. But again, this farmer problem might not exist on an illegal server.

Someone mentioned Festivals in this thread. Well, on the server I played, hardly anyone did them because there wasn't much of a reward for doing them.
Then there are Raid bosses. Again, if you are not a farmer or in one of the few dominant clans on the server, you can't do them. They are camped 24-7 as well, just like the best hunting spots.

To sum it up, the biggest negative things about this game are:
    - grind, grind, grind
    - little variety in what you can do
    - hackers, botters, cheaters and professional farmers who have a major impact on gameplay (and that's not for the best)

Isn't there anything good about the game? I think there is.
    - graphics are awesome
    - castle sieges: mass PvP at its best (with less XP loss)

Erhm, hate to bring it to you but... with C4 they added...FISHING! :)

I saw C2 coming, I saw C3 coming, and actually waited to see what C4 would bring. Apart from some systems that hardly function (manor system: only good for farmers who run scripts to sell their seeds as soon as the market is open every day for instance; any normal player can't click fast enough to sell their seeds before the maximum quantity that is being bought is reached) or systems that are pretty redundant, the only thing that a new chapter brings is more of the same: more land and more monsters (and in C4: a higher level cap). And they change around skills of the various classes, so there's a new overpowered class that everyone wants to reroll into.

Don't get me wrong. I understand you love this game, and I do understand why. I think, however, that the reviews on this site don't give an extremely skewed picture of what L2 is, even after all the new Chronicles. I also don't think it's 'the best MMORPG by far'. It might be for YOU, but there are plenty of people who disagree on this, including me.

It is a bit under-estimated comparing it to Prelude, as many new features, easier to level (just a bit but still helpful), etc. have arrived but one problem has and will there probably forever-cheating... It ruins the game. I know only the minority cheat but the majority of that minority are not adena farmers, they are regular players. These cheaters are the cause of the adena farmers but not only that, these players are actually in-game to try to be the best, even if it means cheating. Adena farmers just de-lvl and rarely PvP (unless they call their boss and then they bring a bunch of players to come and attack us-but is fun image).

I recommend this MMO to everyone, but there are few but big road bumps that  in the way(this is coming from a person who was/still is a Lineage 2 fanboy even though I don't play lol).

One thing about ebayers. They are in every MMO, just check ebay for World of Warcraft, tons of stuff there.
