Originally posted by Greatness It is a bit under-estimated comparing it to Prelude, as many new features, easier to level (just a bit but still helpful), etc. have arrived but one problem has and will there probably forever-cheating... It ruins the game. I know only the minority cheat but the majority of that minority are not adena farmers, they are regular players. These cheaters are the cause of the adena farmers but not only that, these players are actually in-game to try to be the best, even if it means cheating. Adena farmers just de-lvl and rarely PvP (unless they call their boss and then they bring a bunch of players to come and attack us-but is fun ). I recommend this MMO to everyone, but there are few but big road bumps that in the way(this is coming from a person who was/still is a Lineage 2 fanboy even though I don't play lol). One thing about ebayers. They are in every MMO, just check ebay for World of Warcraft, tons of stuff there.
When I quit WoW many months ago, the gold sellers just started resorting to ingame mails and tells, advertising their websites. Was the most pathetic thing ive ever seen in any MMO ive played, and thats saying alot....ive played a fair share of MMOs.
But back on topic here, I havnt personally played L2 but I would love to at least try it, but from what I understand the only way to get a trial key is from a current player?

Nope. Lineage has no trials. There was a trial about 10-12 months ago, if I'm correctly. But that trial key marketing event is long past.

Don't know when you last played, but the farmer problem is getting bigger, in some way. Many regular players now have reached the 60+ mark. The amount of 60+ contents has increased, but not enough if you compare it to the amount of players at high levels. So, the farmers and regular players are now clogged up in the same areas, competing for hunting grounds. And I do agree: it's the minority of players who make use of these 'services' who keep this problem alive.
The whole Ebay/etc thing does happen in all other MMOs as well, but to some game mechanics, it's more devastating if you have them. Lineage, where everything revolves around numbers (highest levels, best gear, biggest zerg alliance) and most of the interesting content is supposedly open PvP and mass PvP, the impact is simply bigger than in games where gear and levels matter less or where there's a more closed PvP system.

I played L2 Beta, it was infested with farming Bots gallore. CSR and GMs didn't seem to care or be concerned. So, I left. I did go back on the test server about a month ago just to see what the latest expansion was about. The elves are still running bent over at that weird 45 degree angle but the farming bots were not in evidence. Plenty of content and the test server was set up non PvP, casual player which I enjoyed. Not wanting to take up yet another mmo, I didn't sign up after the expansion release. But, I would like to know if the game itself now offers the option of a non pvp server for casual players?
its a very mint game iv played it for about 6 months but it takes hours of grinding.. its worse the most games out there in the fact that u gotta grind for hours!
i love it though if it didnt involve that much grinding id play it :P
And I do agree: it's the minority of players who make use of these 'services' who keep this problem alive.
Man thats a tired old urban myth and Im sooooo sick of hearing it.
The problem begins and ends with the companies not policing their EULA. Everyone in this thread and every other thread that has ever complained about gold farmers would say if you asked them, that they could take you out and show you the areas being farmed and the farmers themselves anytime right ?? In this VERY thread many have stated that L60+ players and farmers are all crammed up competing for resources.
So lets just apply a tiny amount of logic for a change (try and stay with me). If YOU can find and identify the gold farmers so easily, what makes you think the Devs/Admins/GM's cant ?
If then you agree that they CAN in fact idetify and locate these farmers we are left with the question of WHY dont they catch them and ban them ?
Answer : It is more profitable to keep them as subscribers.
That is all there is to it!
As soon as you folks realise that YOU care a LOT more about this stuff than the Devs do, it will help you get over it. The only thing the company cares about is turning a profit and ignoring certain parts of their own rules is just one of the tactics they employ to ensure a profit happens.
Blaming Ebay and IGE and MMORPG.com is exactly the same logic that sees things like the War on Drugs philosophy. Arrest lots of users and that will fix it coz the users are the problem.
Hows that working out after 20 years ?

Why does people allways complaine about the grinding? Name one game withot grinding. On WoW everyone are in lvl 60 and thats not fun either. I like it to be hard to get max lvl. Otherwise theres no point of playing.
i just saw this thread and like to make a comment to the orignal poster.
dont worry about what reviews say. the reviews are made by people and people have their own opinions. you could go to any game there is and will talk to those who do or dont like them. the only thing that matters is if you think its good enough game for you to play.
the problem with reviewing mmorpgs two weeks after launch, is that review or rating they have given doesnt really mean much after a year. since these types of games will often change its content, UI and what ever it have to change, the game after six months after launch wouldnt really be the same game as it was released.
Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

EVE Online, Shot online, Second life and a few more. But really, in the most games peoples make the grind, not the game.
Originally posted by hodge12 I reccomend buying a couple of million adena to get started so you can have good equipment. Then you can run a botting program to level up and kill some farmers.

I still think the problem is on all sides. The company not living up to the EULA, players who Ebay and bot because the game mechanics are such that cheating is rewarded more than normal gameplay, and I could add some to the list.
In all honestly, I don't care anymore. I've played long enough to know that this problem will never be solved. I simply moved on and started playing other games.

I really liked the game and the Idea of the game but I found I got killed by high levels sitting outside the newb areas all to often. I kinda liked the Idea of the free PvP but the comunity messed it over for me.
Originally posted by Herithius I can throw my personal 2 cents in but its just another sole individuals opinion. At the end of the day, the game quality speaks for itself. If it was good, more people in North America/Europe would play it. As it stands, very few do and most of their success comes solely from Asia. People who do play it need to be secure enough in their enjoyment and not seek the approval of others.
Lineage 2 Norht America has between the 70~100k subscribers. all servers are on avareg medium~full populated. the game has about the same ammount of subscribers in NA/EU as EVE online has in total, yet I don't even dare to say one bad game about EVE here because I would get flamed to oblivion by fanbois. Is EVE online also medicore because of its low ammount of subscribers?
Is EVE online also medicore because of its low ammount of subscribers?
Truthfully... yes. Thats exactly the point.
A game quality speaks for itself. If a game is amazing with great depth, content, etc, people would flock to it. A game with a modest subscription base tells us that the majority of people don't care to play it. Not because they are unaware of what the game offers but rather they just aren't that interested to start playing it.
Which is totally fine I should state. As long as a person enjoys the game they are playing then thats all that should matter. Problem arises when the fans have to believe the game they are playing is superior to all other games when in reality it's just another average game.
As for L2, if Im not mistaken, they are only running 1 server to accomodate all the interest over in Europe.
Yes only one european server. But 20% of US server population is from europe, like myself.
So you think L2 is a good game.lineage2 europe web page is anauncing Lineage 2 have 4 MILLION players worldwide.you can see it here http://eu.lineage2.com/
I got this game when it first came out. Played for a few months and then quit. There just wasn't enough to keep me interested. Grinding has never been fun to me. The first little bit is alright, but when you grind and grind and grind just to gain that extra level... well... dullsville.
Also got tired of my characters saying the same things over and over when casting spells.
Have things changed much from over the past two years?
The things I hated from this game:
PKers standing outside of town to kill low level players
Grinding your ass off only to die and lose that level you just attained
Adena farmers killing my quest mob that i had to kill 40 creatures just to get it to spawn
Finally buying a weapon that took forever to afford... Only to get killed and have it drop and taken away
Racism overload!
Everyone looks the same
Quests that make you spend a fortune to finish
I'm sure there's more, but I can't recall... It's been at least 1 1/2 years since I played and it left a very bitter taste in my mouth.
Granted it is graphically amazing, but there's not near enough to hold my attention. If I want to spend hours killing one type of mob to gain adena and xp then I guess L2 is fine. But overall... I don't think I miss this PKers haven called Lineage 2.
Cheers! t0yb0x

Couldnt agree more, the Korean games all require a grind from hell that makes the majority of westerners Cringe at the thought of sitting there butt at the computer for 12+ time hour streches at a time.
As for the graphics which is better EQ2 or Lineage 2, I could care less who has the better engine or polygon count, the Art Style of Lineage 2 blows EQ2 out of the water. But thats all it has going for it unless you have countless hours to sink into it.
I like the looks of RFonline as well, I love the Anime look. But im already seeing horrible reviews on the Horrid Korean Grind.
