For me it was MapleStory. I made a char, walked l…
Some of the mobile MMOs available such as Yslandia and Graal online really don't belong in this age. They look and play like games out of the 80s. Only plus points are that you can interact with other players.

I agree about Dragons Prophet. That has to be one of the worse programmed mmo's i've ever played. I don't get why SOE hasn't dumped it yet.
Dragon based MMOs and RPGs, both PC and mobile, all seem to be hot at the mom…
Surely the future (whcih is already happening) will lead to a wide variety of MMOs. Some will be aimed at a small number of hardcore people and others mgiht be aimed at the casual mass market. The problem is that a lot of the hardcore want to play t…
How about...dare I say it, Star Wars Galaxies. If you've never played it (and so not hurt by all the changes) then there's plenty to do for a sci-fi fan. Planetary adventure, space adventure and crafting & trading. Good crafting means that you c…
LoTRO is a much easier game to get into and for newbies to the MMOG scene is an ideal start. It's also solo friendly.
FFXI is a hardcore game and I'd only recommend it to more experienced MMO fans. Newbies are better off looking elsewhere at the l…

How do you suppose this sort of game would pan out?
As you level up, you do not gain base Health or base Mana/Energy/whatever. Your abilities do not do more base damage. What you gain…
One of the big problems is that whilst skill based games, with no levels, are much more interesting to play, especially if by changing your character’s skill set you can have an entirely different type of gameplay, most MMO gamers don’t like them. T…
Same for me with Eve Online. Hated playing it in beta and hated playing it in retail. I think I can't get past the complicated looking user interface. But love reading about what goes on in the game.
Anarchy Online. Again, I like the idea of it an…
I've played both too and am even a lifetime member of LOTRO... but I agree that there is much more to Vanguard. But then Vanguard was designed to be a very comprehensive game with its complex crafting, diplomacy and so on. I still loved the fact tha…
I've remembered the newbie spider rampage bug in Vanguard. These newbie pets spawned at level 17 and attacked all players within range in the newbie area.
Sounds interesting Mr Bubbles. I remember Richard Garriot saying in the book Dungeon and Dreamers it's hard to know what's fair when some people outfox the game system without resorting to cheating. Are they really doing wrong? The argument is usual…
I used to play E&B. Great game and really accessible for newbies. Loved the three clear races and the simple classes. Liked the fact it features our own solar system. They also put lots of points of interest in the game so there was plenty to ex…
