  • Don’t forget all… Despite the game being a train-wreck at launch, if you play vanguard you know there are a lot of really well thought-out and innovative features and perks such as original character classes (disciples), the depth of character skill…

  • A lot of people usually take a break between mmorpgs. I have taken 6 months to a year between mmorpgs ever since the mud days and Ultima Online. MMORPGs are pretty much the same so if you are bored with one, odds are you will not be too excited abou…
  • If gamers never got tiered of their current games then there would never be any new games released and all of us “old farts” would still be playing EQ1, UO, and AC. While there were a lot of things I liked about these old games, I am sure glad I w…
  • The models and animations are often criticized. SOE is working on fixing the models to start with. They are very inefficiently resource wise and are said to contribute the high system reqs. People in the community often laud the utter beauty and r…
  • What is so great about WAR? 1) Its made by Mythic the greatest company ever! ... wait, no, that’s not right. They do the bare amount of effort to get by, they products lack content and depth and it takes them forever to fix or make a decision ab…
  • There seems to be an annoying trend in the industry in not having open betas. I think this is a business decision to generate extra revenue: Some people buy games without researching them. These people will find out the game is broken, terrible,…
  • Pre NGE: Sure, SWG was a great sandbox game and very innovative. Post NGE: They replaced all the sand with broken glass and required all players to be hemophiliacs. To make matters worse the broken glass was very buggy due to lack of team expertis…
  • I started playing vanguard with a 2.3 Ghz, GF 6800 system, with 1 Gig ram. I got about 15-20 FPS on the lowest settings. It was not pretty but very playable.

  • Originally posted by sidebuster Don't expect this thread to be a "join vanguard today patch blah blah made it better". What I wanted to say to people who play though is it just me or does vanguard really feel like the original Everquest in some w…
  • I just started a Disciple and got him to level 18. Disciples are a blast and are unique in the MMOG genre. Its like playing an EQ 1 monk who can cast heals and also heal / buff via attacks. They are very soloable.
  • Originally posted by Vercin It's Mcquaid not Mccain. You must have politics on the brain.   And I would give the game another 6 months to a year to cook a little more evenly. Play eq2 or something in the meanwhile. It is Brad McBane   You …
  • Combat is hard to comment on. Combat in most of the major games (EQ2, WOW, DAoC, LotRO) all feel pretty much the same to me. I like Vanguard combat because the fights are a bit longer than WoW. Also because of Vanguard’s complexity it seems to giv…
  • Nice review,   I do not agree with the nerfing comment though. A lot of classes have been made more powerful / fun and more are getting enhanced in the next patch. I have not heard of any real nerfs. There was a concern about Rangers getting ner…
  • EQ2 * More complete * Less buggy * More polish * Easier (harder to die, faster leveling, easer to get high-end gear) Vanguard * Prettier graphics and more realistic level design (if you have a super computer) * Combat system, characte…
  • Originally posted by page And I'll tell you why :  It was released too soon and that killed the game permanently. There will never be a large population at ANY GIVEN TIME, I'm sure most things are fixed, but population is the key for MMO"s. I mus…
  • If you just want to level fast, people say you level at about the same speed in VG as in EQ2 or wow. You can hit 50 in 5 or so days played. Ginding (i.e. killing mobs endlessly / gaining experience as efficiently as possible) is obsolete IMO. A …
  • I like WoW’s level design a lot too. Vanguard's world is much more rich and vibrant than EQ2 IMO. The lay of the land is more realistic while EQ2 always made me feel that the zones were thrown together by a programmer and not an artist. I was stum…
  • I played pre-Cu. Pre-CU was much better than post and the NGE however pre-cu had its share of big problems: 1) Class balance was terrible. This hurts in a game with PvP. 2) While the game was a ton of fun to play, and crafting was the best ever…
