I remember asking this question to Colin back in 2010 when I was at GC. He said if many people wanted mounts in the game, we would think about adding them but the mounts won't have any speed advantage, it will just be to look cool.

It's hard to say but considering people that tried out GW 2 at GC and PAX (including me) and Anet saying all these things in the Manifesto which became true once you play it. I can say that WvW is gonna be amazing.
