I consider myself a different kind of roleplayer. Different? How? I follow Adellion, the game in development in which immersiveness is a prime objective, death is final and PvP is open as long as it is for in character reasons. They have taken away evrything that ruins a game for me. They have taken away the silliness that you can just fight forever and never die (resurrection). Thereby they have reduced the will to kill. There is risk of your own death, so you think, and you survive if you don''t put yourself in the line of fire. Believe me, that''ll make the line of fire a lot more interesting.

  • I'd rather categorize them as qualified / subpar, good / poor, mindless playtime / engaging game, or some such than modern / subpar. Modern doesn't imply quality to me. Done with the nitpickery, and I agree. There are plenty of people who hope for…

  • MMORPGs aren't very strong on this. You'll find a few text based online games that match better. I played Firan a long time (FiranMUX). A lot was right about it. It wasn't perfect, but in having actual roleplayers it was infinitely better than such …
  • Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, but he has cash.
  • And now I suspect that the stickying occured due to a click in the wrong checkbox... However - what is the purpose of this thread? To make sure that Joel knows that people in general don't want more threads on the given subject? I believe he knows. …
  • * Because I've not read any previous interaction between you people and the OP, you do come off as needlessly crude and flammable. * I've now read the whole thread, hoping to find out what earned such a pointless topic a sticky - and I am truly non…
  • Instanced areas are good for telling predefined stories. The kill stealing, ninjaing and camping isn't realistic, just the natural effect of a less than perfect world design. The big problem being that as long as you pile on with static quests tha…

  • I know more of what's going on there at this time than you do, believe me. The team is on track with a plan. The original game concept was a strategy game in java/browser, and they have since changed it to a 3D roleplaying game using Torque. I don…
  • * Adellion * Conflict Omega * (they have a dev lurking in the mmorpg.com developers corner) All the titles are being brought to us by indie developers, and the Huge corporation / Safe bets factor doesn't affect the process. None of these games …
  • First off: Quit using "gay" as a negative term. I want that word out of the 4letter list, and I want it badly. And if anybody is unclear on what one shouldn't be talking about here, it is the hacking of accounts. That's illegal. On mmorpg.com you …

  • The biggest DUH of it all (and that is no TLA) is that the topic isn't "They shouln't be bothered by my incorporating the name of Stalin in my character's name", nor "Stalin was justified". The problem is more along these lines: Use an unacceptabl…

  • No matter how rich the lore in WoW is, it will not be as good as any lore that corresponds with gameplay. You can have the lore fed to you in various ways throughout WoW, but you don't interact with in on an interesting level. Good lore is more than…
  • I don't know many games that require skill. It would seem to me that the simplest design for requiring skill would be to * Put all players on a basically equal footing, giving the "elite" by stats and gear only moderate advantages * Let players…
  • Originally posted by swordsbane One last thing about fps.  Combat should be fps.  Click and wait combat is a holdover from the single player, turn-based computer rpgs.  It does not make sense in a real-time multi-player game.  Sure some people will…
  • Pro-name: Stalin's Hammer is an appropriate name for a person who has been "developed" (as a weapon would). It is rather cool too, and implies that the creature is a merciless and powerful tool (again, appropriate for the story given). But then. C…
